It is not every day that one gets to see an engine swap on one of the most popular motorcycles around
In this post, we come across a Royal Enfield Himalayan undergoing an engine swap with a KTM 640-cc. Himalayan is an iconic off-roading motorcycle. Adventure seekers often use it to go on long journeys, particularly in the Himalayas or other mountainous terrains. The inherent ruggedness and strong build of the Himalayan lend themselves well to make it a tough motorbike on all sorts of surfaces. However, some people believe that it is slightly underpowered for highways.
Royal Enfield Himalayan Gets KTM 640-cc Engine
The specifics of this case stem from Mancave Customs on YouTube. The vlogger has the Royal Enfield Himalayan. To make it significantly more powerful, he decided to install the engine from the iconic KTM 640 LC4. This results in the power figures doubling after the engine swap. In fact, the visuals showcase that the KTM’s engine is slightly smaller than that of the Himalayan. Hence, there is no need to worry about the space on offer. Apart from that, the YouTuber even adds some other mechanical components.
We see the man dismantling the KTM to pull out the engine, suspensions, swingarm, etc. The aim is to fit these components, along with the engine on the RE Himalayan, if necessary. Also, he has to opt for the appropriate space for the radiator and oil cooler. He does the work to get the measurements before slapping on the new engine. The YouTuber mentions that the suspension of the Himalayan is quite soft, which is why he will try to install the suspension from the LC4. Overall, the man is confident that he will be able to pull this off.
My View
Engine-swapping is not a common practice, particularly in a country like India. However, many international markets have mechanics who do this relatively frequently. Remember that most car and bike modifications are illegal in India. Hence, we don’t come across too many hardcore customizations. As a consequence, I appreciate such occasions where we get to experience something so creative and skillful online. I shall keep an eye out for more details in this case in the times to come.
