Maruti has put out a message in support of petrol cars. It says how much do you have to run your diesel car if you want to recover the costs.
Maruti Suzuki discontinued diesel engines from last year itself as to be prepared from the oncoming BS6 emission norms. All of its cars are petrol-only models including small hatchbacks and big SUVs. While it has left many Maruti lovers unaffected, some of them mourn the loss of highly efficient and reliable the Multi-Jet diesel engine.
To support its initiative of having petrol-only cars in its kitty, Maruti Suzuki has put out this informative message. Many auto enthusiasts have opposed this message and have ranted about it as well. It’s a simple message but what does it exactly mean? Check out ahead to know all the controversy related to it.

What Maruti is trying to say is that if you buy a diesel car you will have to run it for atleast 2.6 Lakh kilometres. After this only, you can recover all the extra costs that you have spent on buying this car and maintaining it. So you have to use it for such a long mileage only then it is what we Indians call “Paisa Vasool”.
The cost of owning a diesel car is anyday more than a petrol car. However, when it comes to daily maintenance, there’s a tough challenge between both of them. And when it comes to the daily fuel costs, a diesel car is a clear winner. The biggest myth regarding diesel cars that they do not have a life of more than 5 years is not true. If you use it daily, you can keep it with yourself for more than 10 years.
In the case of Maruti Suzuki, it is planning to re-introduce diesel engines if the demand is high. In 2018, it launched the Ciaz Diesel with a 1.5 Litre DDiS in-house developed engine. Both, this and the 1.3 Litre MJD were discontinued. The former is expected to make a reappearance however only for bigger cars.

Along with Maruti Suzuki, many other manufacturers like Volkswagen, Skoda, Renault and Nissan have discontinued all of their diesel engines. As for Honda, it has discontinued the CRV diesel and reportedly, Jazz will also not get a diesel engine. Mahindra and Tata have shut down their smallest diesel engines powering their entry-level cars.
