For the month of April, the new Yamaha MT-15 has once again managed to garner more sales than the Duke 125. The latter is more affordable than MT-15.
Yamaha launched the much anticipated MT-15 naked streetfighter in India two months back, for Rs 1.36 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Since the launch, it has maintained a healthy sales figure, averaging over 3000 units.
It goes against the likes of KTM Duke 125, which is more affordable by Rs 12,000. The baby Duke was launched at a price of Rs 1.18 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), but recently saw a price hike of Rs 6,000.
The monthly sales report for April show that 3800 units of Yamaha MT-15 have been sold, whereas 2199 units of Duke 125 have been sold. Despite being more affordable and popular, it faces the heat from the 155cc Yamaha naked bike.

One of the important reasons for this is the difference between the engine capacities. The MT-15 gets a more powerful 155cc engine, compared to the 125cc engine on Duke. You know how the engine performs when used on R15 V3.
While Yamaha MT-15 produces 19 BHP, Duke 125 tops out at 14.5 BHP. Both use a 6-speed transmission and are originally built for the same purpose – performance riding.
The equipment on Duke 125 is definitely a bit expensive than what’s found on MT-15. But we suspect the power figures to be the main reason for people preferring the costlier model.

However, MT-15 is just Rs 3,000 cheaper than its fully faired version. Also, it uses a single-channel ABS instead of the dual-ABS unit found on R15 V3. Rest of the parts between both the motorcycles are the same.
Yamaha MT-15 uses telescopic forks at the front and a swingarm with monoshock at the back. Braking power comes from a 300mm disc at the front and a 296mm disc at the back, with a single-channel ABS.
