Yamaha has entered the 125cc scooter space with the new Fascino 125. It replaces the existing Fascino 110, with a new engine, refreshed styling and more features as well. Yamaha has also unveiled the Ray ZR 125.
The prices and engine specifications have been revealed and the bookings have also commenced. The scooter will start reaching dealerships by January 2020 and by the end of the month, the deliveries will commence smoothly. The Fascino 125 comes in two variants – Disc and Drum, priced from Rs 66,430 up to Rs 69,930 (ex-showroom Delhi). As for the Activa 125, its prices have been increased by Rs 8,500. It now starts at Rs 67,490 to Rs 74,490.

Powering the Fascino is a 125cc air-cooled engine with fuel injection as standard. The motor is capable of producing 8.2 BHP and 9.7 Nm of peak torque. As for the Activa, it uses a 124cc fan-cooled engine with PGM-FI. The power spec is just 0.1 BHP lesser, at 8.1 BHP. The torque is higher by 0.6 Nm, at 10.3 Nm peak.

Due to revisions to the BS-6 engine and addition of Fuel injection, the mileage figures are better than the BS-4 version. The Fascino now offers 16% better mileage, of around 58 kmpl. The mileage of Activa 125 is higher by 30%, expected around 52-53 kmpl. Both the scooters will offer a riding range of around 300 kms.

For suspension, both of them use telescopic forks at the front. At the back, Fascino gets a unit swing arm suspension. The Activa 125 uses advanced 3-step adjustable spring-loaded hydraulic at the back.
On the Fascino, you get front and rear drum brakes as standard with an option of a front disc brake. Activa 125 comes with front disc and rear drum brakes as standard. Both use 12-inch front and 10-inch rear tyres.

The Fascino is longer than the Activa 125 by 70mm and is lighter as well, by nearly 12 kgs. The Activa, in turn, is wider by 22mm, taller by 20mm and offers a better ground clearance of 169mm, compared to 145mm of Fascino.
Other Rivals
The list of other rivals includes Suzuki Access 125, Hero Destini 125 and Hero Maestro Edge 125. Hero scooters are yet to receive BS-6 engines, but the Maestro Edge is already equipped with FI. So, it is ready for the transition and would not demand a major price hike. Suzuki has unveiled the BS-6 Access 125, but is yet to announce the prices.
