Merely a week after launching the Saluto RX 110cc commuter motorcycle, the Indian subsidiary of Yamaha has launched the new Cygnus Ray-ZR automatic scooter. Sales of the new scooter will commence on May-1, 2016. The new Yamaha Cygnus Ray-ZR made its public debut at the Auto Expo 2016 held in February this year. The Yamaha Cugnus Ray-ZR price for base model is INR 52,000 and this scooter delivers a claimed fuel mileage of 66 kpl. Speaking on the launch of the new scooter, Mr. Roy Kurian, VP-Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. said, “Out of the total demand of two wheelers in India, the scooter segment is soaring with 30% contribution to the sales and we are looking at 10% market share for this year. With Yamaha’s forte to cater to youngsters with its DNA of style, sportiness and innovation, the new Cygnus Ray-ZR will surely be a treat for real boys, especially among the ones particularly keen on style and technology. The new Yamaha Cygnus Ray-ZR is based on the Ray-ZR automatic scooter. However, Yamaha says that the new scooter has been developed around the concept of a “Next-Generation Real Boy’s Scooter.”Mechanically, there isn’t much to differentiate between the new model and its donor sibling. However, the new scooter boasts of a fresher design. The Cygnus Ray-ZR gets a sharper and a more aggressive styling than the regular Ray-ZR.

Powering the new Cygnus Ray-ZR is an air-cooled SOHC, 4-stroke, 2-valve 113cc motor that benefits from Yamaha’s “BLUE CORE” tech to offer a fuel mileage of 66 kpl. The engine comes mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The Cygnus weighs just 103 kgs and the scooter offers plenty of storage space (21 litres under seat storage). It also benefits from features such as tubeless tyres.
