Top company officials have hinted that Yamaha Aerox will be launched in India in the ‘following’ year. It will be a premium 150cc scooter.
Yamaha India Chairman Motofumi Shitara has revealed something big about the company’s India plans. In an interview to Business Line, he has confirmed that a new premium scooter is set to debut the Indian market in 2020.
Of course, we all know that it is the Yamaha Aerox/Nmax 150cc scooter, which has been speculated for a long time now. It was spotted at an Indian Yamaha dealership some years back.
The Chairman has said further said that the Yamaha uniqueness will be available on this scooter. Top officials in Japan have already confirmed that they are gearing up for a new scooter lineup in India near the introduction of BS-6 norms.

The current lineup of Yamaha scooters consists of only 110cc scooters. There is no 125cc scooter as well. Fascino, Ray and Cygnus Alpha are the three models in lineup, which have different variants.
Coming back to Yamaha Aerox, we expect it to carry the same engine that comes on the R15 V3 and MT-15. Of course, it will be in a completely different state of tune, that is focused towards fuel efficiency.
The 155cc liquid-cooled DOHC engine in R15 and MT-15 produces 19.1 BHP and 14.8 Nm of peak torque. The power figures will be drastically dropped for fuel efficiency. There are chances of the 150cc engine of SZ-RR detuned for the scooter.

In earlier reports, Yamaha officials have confirmed that they will position the upcoming scooter as a premium product, but will definitely house the Yamaha performance.
In the Indian market, the Yamaha Aerox will go against the likes of Aprilia SR150 and Vespa 150 variants. More importantly, the SR150, since it is a performance oriented scooter.
Aprilia SR150 produces nearly 10.4 BHP and 11.4 Nm of peak torque. We expect the Yamaha scooter to produced higher power figures.
