Now, as per the stats in 2013, 96% of people living in Dubai are expatriates from other countries. People settle there for work as it is a healthy economy due to its oil and natural gas resources. Hence, most people work in big companies and earn crazy salaries. On top of that, all income in the UAE is Tax-Free.

Consequently, people have a lot of cash to burn. Once the basic needs are taken care of, people often end up buying supercars. The city has a culture of such an extravagant lifestyle. Hence, they take loans and end up buying the most luxurious and expensive cars in the world. However, the Sharia laws in the country are quite brutal and strict. As per these laws, defaulting on loan payments is considered stealing and you will be jailed for committing that crime. During the pandemic, people lost their jobs and were unable to pay mortgages on time.
In order to save themselves from getting jailed, these people decided to flee the country. In the hurry, they left their cars wherever they were including on the sides of the roads and in the parking lots. As a matter of fact, the video shows some cars where the keys were also left in the ignition. As a result, there are thousands of abandoned cars in Dubai.
