Global NCAP released the safety rating of the new Maruti Dzire which is what forms the basis of this post as well
After the stellar performance of the new Dzire, we are of the opinion that the new Maruti Swift could also replicate its NCAP score. For the unversed, the 4th generation Dzire bagged a full 5-star safety rating at the Global NCAP. This makes it the first Maruti Suzuki car ever to achieve this milestone. In fairness, the Maruti Grand Vitara had also been tested a few weeks ago. Its spy images were all over the internet. However, we are yet to receive the verdict. It looks like the largest carmaker in the country has done a lot of work to make its latest cars much safer than their ancestors.
Why New Maruti Swift Will Get 5-Star NCAP Score?
Albeit the new Dzire looks completely different from either the new Swift or the previous-gen Dzire, it is based on the same platform as the Swift. Hence, the fundamental mechanical foundation is the same. Secondly, it shares its safety features with the Swift save for the 360-degree camera. But that amenity doesn’t play any part in Global NCAP’s testing protocols. Sure, the Dzire is slightly heavier due to the added sheetmetal and increased NVH control. Nevertheless, with the same platform and safety features, there is a high chance that Swift will also replicate what Dzire has been able to achieve. The main safety equipment on the Swift includes:
- 6 Airbags
- ABS with EBD
- ISOFIX Child Seat Mounts
- Electronic Stability Program
- Hill Hold Assist
- Rear Defogger
- Wide Angle Rear Parking Camera
- Front Seatbelts with Pretensioner and Force Limiter
- Seatbelt Reminder with Buzzer (Front + Rear Seat)
The new Maruti Swift draws power from a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z12E naturally aspirated petrol mill which is able to generate a healthy 82 PS and 112 Nm of peak power and torque. Performing the transmission is either a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic gearbox. However, the main aspect is the impressive mileage figures of 24.8 kmpl with the manual and 25.75 kmpl with the automatic version. The CNG variant makes 69.75 PS and 101.8 Nm of peak power and torque with a mileage of 32.85 km/kg.

My View
The Maruti Dzire and Swift are already among the best-selling cars in our market ever. They have been around for close to 2 decades. With constant updates, Maruti has been able to keep the interest of the customers for these cars strong. In fact, even today, they feature among the highest-selling cars each month. With this safety rating, the Dzire is bound to attract even more eyeballs from customers who prioritize safety over everything else. Let us wait for the NCAP score of the new Maruti Swift and other Maruti cars.
