The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is one of the most famed nameplates in the world of off-roading communities. Adventure seekers around the world have been swearing by this compact off-roader for decades. In fact, the inception of this iconic lightweight off-roader dates back to World War 2. The immense off-roading prowess of the SUV resulted into a pretty high public demand, thereby leading to the market launch in 1970. The current model, which is the fourth-generation model, has been offered in a 5-door configuration for the first time since its inception. This has been done to enhance its practicality and suit the Indian market to the proverbial Tee. We recently got to spend a weekend with Jimny. Allow us to take you through our experience.

The busy lives led by most of us metro-dwellers make us victims of stress and anxiety. After all, an overt majority of the populace often gets entangled in a monotonous routine of going to work, spending hours in bumper-to-bumper traffic, coming back home tired and calling it a day only to repeat the vicious cycle. No wonder, then, that almost everybody craves to breakaway from the monotony. This is exactly where the few off-beat areas around Delhi-NCR come to the rescue.
As is obvious, to reach the lap of the nature, one needs to be sufficiently equipped. Let me not beat around the bush, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is quite possibly the right tool for this task. I mean this vehicle is exactly what served as our chariot for our journey in pursuit of rejuvenation. We started our journey from the heart of Delhi and drove over 50 kms, across Gurugram, to the Leopard Trail. There were some exciting trails and picturesque backdrops that made us choose this destination, but the newly opened expressways littered around Gurugram brought to light the highway-munching capabilities of our off-roader.
On this leg of our odyssey, the peppy 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine ensured that highway cruising and occasional overtakes came nice and easy. The smooth transmission ensured that we were always in a nice power band. Lest we forget, the high-speed stability left us surprised, for its seldom that such thoroughbred off-roaders exhibit road manners of, say, a typical mid-size crossover!

A Morning Like Never Before!
Once we left behind the well-paved tarmac, our Jimny was piloted across a hilly section with some fast-swooping corners. Even though we enjoyed driving the Jimny on those curves, we couldn’t help but notice the stunning hills and flora that the roads led us to. Once off the beaten path, the ALLGRUP PRO hardware came in handy and helped us make our way uphill on what was a near-vertical climb! The well-thought approach angles ensured we never had to break a sweat. With 4×4 engaged, absolutely no hurdle could hold us back from our little exploration spree. We relished the sunrise from atop the gorgeous Aravalli Hills – Now that’s a view that’s almost always conspicuous by its absence throughout our busy lives.
Once the sun was up and we had sipped our morning tea, we drove around for a bit through some of the forest trails. Now, this has to be the best part about driving a Jimny. You don’t have to think twice before getting those tyres entrenched in mud. It was soon time for breakfast. Again, we parked our Jimny on the trail and gulped down some sumptuous food at a famous location on this trek. The final section of our excursion was reserved for some more fun – after all, we really can’t seem to have enough of this SUV! This included a myriad of off-roading trails in the vicinity. On many occasions, there wasn’t even any marked route and we were able to exercise our freedom to roam about in our Jimny anywhere we wished. That is a freedom which presents itself only when we are behind the wheel of such capable vehicles.

Truly, the balance that Jimny strikes between taking us on butter-smooth expressways, as well as treacherous terrains of the Aravalli Hills, is something truly remarkable. Finally, it was time to head back to civilization. After a rejuvenating day out, we were back to our mundane lifestyle, albeit with an invigorating energy and fresh mind.
