A viral video shows the Tesla Model S catching fire suddenly while sitting inside a car parking in China. Here are some reasons for explaining the incident.
Imagine a car parked casually and suddenly it catches fire. Engine is off and it is just idle. A video showing the Tesla Model S experiencing a similar situation has become viral on the internet.
Out of nowhere thick smoke comes out from the bonnet of the car and suddenly there its bursts leaving a blanket of white smoke. Next we see if the car literally gutting under fire.
Tesla has sent its team to investigate the incident in Shanghai. The event happen at 8 PM on Sunday night. The manufacturer stated that it is contacting relevant departments.

This is not the first time that a Tesla has caught fire. In February 2019, a Tesla Model S collided with a tree. Following this, it started burning and trapped the driver inside. It resulted in the death of the rider.
The most speculated reason for this might be of the lithium-ion batteries used. Reports say that the battery cell might have been ruptured or there might be a short circuit.
Earlier, Tesla has stated that an electric car is ten times safer than a fuel powered vehicle in terms of catching fire. There are chances of the battery pack catching fire once it crashes, but there are rare chances of it while sitting idle.
As of now, the exact cause of the incident is unknown. In 2014, similar issues were bought up on the Tesla Model S. So, the manufacturer starting using Titanium underbody protection on further models.

It also protects the battery pack with a quarter-inch thick aluminium sheet. However, the affected model in the incident is an old one, which did not come with these mechanical upgrades.
