I stumbled upon a video of a burning Maruti Omni van on the road. The visuals are quite shocking. Unfortunate incidents are rather common on Indian roads. Vehicles catching fire due to various reasons is also something I have personally reported countless times. On this occasion, the iconic van is the latest victim of the flames. Let us take a look at the details of this case here.

Burning Maruti Omni on Road
The post comes from brut.india on Instagram. It captures the burning Omni van moving on the road. The exact reason for this fire is unknown. However, as per some reports, this incident took place in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Thankfully, the driver was able to escape the van timely. But he was unable to put a halt to the vehicle. Resultantly, the van keeps moving on the road without the driver for some distance. Thereafter, it comes to a standstill after hitting a truck. No one was injured in this accident.

Why Did The Van Burn?
The news reports also suggest that the van caught fire after the CNG cylinder exploded. Now, I can’t confirm or deny this claim. But I have reported many cases where this is actually the case. Many commercial fleet operators often use CNG powertrains in their cars to achieve low running costs and high profits. In fact, that is the reason they generally head to the aftermarket car modification houses. They install CNG cylinders from shops which are not too experienced. Hence, there is always some issue with such fittings.

Author’s Note
I understand that car owners are looking for alternatives as fuel prices keep on rising. CNG is a feasible solution, at least in the big cities. The infrastructure in these metro cities is widespread. That is why many taxi operators visit aftermarket car shops to get the CNG cylinders installed. If these shops don’t have professional mechanics and personnel, such cases of CNG cylinder explosions become common. Hence, I would like to advise my readers to always go for a branded and reputed car house.
