Here is a surprising on-road price quote from a dealership for the top-spec VW Taigun. The top variant comes with the 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engine and VW’s popular DSG gearbox. This engine belts out 150 hp and 250 Nm of peak power and torque respectively. This means that this variant will have an estimated ex-showroom price of around Rs 18 lakh. This will make it more expensive than the competition even though it has fewer features than its rivals. This has always been the point of contention for the buyers with VW products. The Taigun is set to launch most likely in Aug 2021. It will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, MG Hector and its sibling, Skoda Kushaq.

Now, there is a case to be made about the build quality of VW products. Volkswagen is known for making tough vehicles with a focus on practicality and safety rather than aesthetics. This is not to say that the VW products are bad-looking or anything of that sort. The exterior of the German carmaker does follow the typical design language of the brand. One could argue that the design theme has not seen any radical changes over the years. The interiors are also well built with high-quality materials and a practical cabin. However, the rivals just offer a ton more goodies and convenience features at a marginally lower price. This makes buying a VW a bit difficult for the buyers. Only the people interested in driving generally opt for VW vehicles due to peppy engines and great handling.

On-Road Price of Top-Trim VW Taigun
A customer had registered interest in the VW Taigun and he received a call from the dealership quoting him an on-road price of Rs 21 lakh for the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with DSG gearbox. Surprise, the customer weighs his options of getting a bigger car for around the same price as he thinks that so much money on the mid-size SUV is not worth it. Saying this, he withdraws his booking of the Taigun. Also, he was quoted an on-road price of around Rs 17.50 lakh for the smaller 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine with the automatic gearbox. For around the on-road price of the top-trim VW Taigun, one can also get the 7-seat SUVs like the Alcazar, Safari or Hector Plus.
