- Volvo is known for making rugged cars with the highest safety prowess.
- This rollover test of the XC90 from 2014 shows just how strong the build quality of Volvo cars has been.
- Remember Volvo was the carmaker to develop 3-point seatbelts and offer them to the world for free without patenting the technology back in 1959.
In this video of the Volvo XC90 from 2014, the rollover test is shown which makes the NCAP tests look insufficient. Volvo has been one of the top players when it comes to safety equipment in automobiles. This trend began in 1959 when they first deployed the 3-point seatbelts in their cars for the first time. However, they didn’t patent this technology and offered it to everyone to make sure that the safety of humans is given priority over money. That quality has been ingrained in the DNA of the Swedish carmaker ever since.

Volvo Rollover Test Makes NCAP Look Stupid
The video has been uploaded by Carjam TV on YouTube. It captures various tests that the Volvo XC90 went through since 2014. The first test is the frontal offset crash test conducted at 64 km/h (40 mph). It involves hitting the car against an immovable object at an offset. This tests the crumple zone efficiency at the front and how much damage the driver, the passenger and the children suffer with the airbags and seatbelts. Thereafter, the SUV goes through the side impact crash test at 55 km/h (35 mph).

It involves a machine hitting the SUV from the side at the aforementioned speed. It tests the power and strength of the side pillars and side body panels. In fact, it even teststhe efficiency of the curtain airbags. Then comes the rollover crash test at 48 km/h (30 mph). In this test, the SUV is held in a sideways slanting position on a moving machine which throws it sideways. The aim is to simulate rolling over that often happens in accidents on the roads as the drivers try to steer away from the obstacle.

NCAP Looks Simple in Comparison
After all these testing challenges, the Volvo XC90 emerged victorious in the sense that it was pronounced safe under all these horrible-looking conditions. With such rigorous tests, the new-age NCAP tests look almost too simple for cars. Nevertheless, we hope that cars are tested such rigorously. This will help car buyers have the best chances to survive in unfortunate incidents. What are your thoughts on this?
