Volkswagen Taigun India launch (and for the matter global launch) is set to happen at the Indian Auto Expo 2014 in February. The company has been contemplating its India entry for the past sometime, on top of that there have been reports that the dealers have been informed and the staff training is underway in preparation for the launch. It will be one of the many global unveils / launches that are set to be held at the 2014 Auto Expo, another reason for visiting the show.
The Volkswagen Taigun Indian variant will most probably be powered by a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder TSI petrol engine. This can generate 108 BHP of maximum power and 175 Nm of maximum torque. For sending power from the engine to the wheels, a 6-speed manual and/or the DSG automatic transmission system could be in place. With these specs, the SUV could clock a 0-100 KMPH time of 9.2 seconds and at the same time have a mileage of 21 KMPL. The focus will be on the 2-wheel drive variants, but we expect (and hope) that there will be at least one 4-wheel drive variant.

The SUV borrows a lot from Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Touareg on the styling front. However, there are substantial improvements in the stance to make it look more exciting. The new vibrant colors make it look even more youthful. To carry the Volkswagen SUV legacy forward, it has rugged side panels, roof rails and underbody protection. Going in line with is positioning of being an absolute SUV, the vehicle gives you magnificent space for 5 passengers. The boot space is about 280 litre, and if the rear seats are down, you can get about 987 litres of space. It has a split tail gate for easier loading.
The concept car which was shown at the October 2012 Sao Paulo Motor Show looked very promising and we are expecting it to make some good numbers in India. When it comes here, the ante will be up against the likes of Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster as well as forthcoming compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki and the Honda Brio based SUV. VW has stayed away from the compact SUV segment in India and now its ready to enter the lucrative arena, let the show begin!
