Volkswagen T-Cross 1.6L Diesel engine to join the already established fleet of 1.0L petrol engines.
Volkswagen recently introduced a 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine for the T-Cross compact SUV in international markets. The engine produces 95 bhp with a healthy torque of 250 Nm. Buyers can choose from an option of 5-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
Launched back in 2018, it was only available in 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and available in two different tunes. The lower variant, S and SE produce 94 bhp with 175 Nm of torque while the top-end trims, SEL and R-line trim, churns out 113 bhp with 200 Nm of healthy torque.
The newly launched diesel engine suffice to the Euro 6-compliant which is far ahead then the BS-VI emission norms which will come into effect from April 2020. The car clocks 0-100 km/h in just 11.90 seconds with the manual transmission while the seven-speed DSG gearbox manages to do the sprint in 12.5 seconds for the same figure.

Volkswagen can likely bring the T-cross diesel to the Indian shores as it is a cleaner diesel engine for the international market. The petrol engine will definitely come to the Indian market for sure. The prices for the base variant SE diesel is likely to start from Rs 18 lakh onwards.
Also with the introduction of the new 1.6-litre diesel engine, Volkswagen might discontinue the 1.5-litre diesel engine which is available in India. Due to the strict BS-VI emission norms, Volkswagen is likely to axe out the smaller diesel engine seen on the Polo, Ameo and the Vento.
Internationally, the T-Cross gets 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, LED tail lamps, an eight-inch infotainment system with Volkswagen Connect. The compact SUV also gets heated door mirrors, adaptive cruise control, driver-alert fatigue system and more.

Safety features of the Volkswagen T-Cross include six-airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake distribution (EBD) and electronic stability program (ESP), ISOFIX mount child seats, Hill Assist and Traction Control.
Volkswagen T-Cross carries the same company’s traditional design with its boxy-silhouette, chunky profile and thick wheel arches. The compact SUV also offers a huge 385-litres of boot space.
When the T-Cross hits the Indian shores it will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur. It is expected to come at a price tag of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom, pan India).
