The Volkswagen Polo and Vento facelift will also see the coming of a new engine. It will be a BS-VI compliant 1.0L turbo petrol engine replacing the current 1.2L and 1.6L petrol engines.
Just yesterday we reported with that the Volkswagen Polo and Vento have been spotted undisguised with their new facelift. While we just reported about the cosmetic updates, we now know that there will be new mechanical updates as well. But let’s take a refresh of the cosmetic changes first.
At the front, the grille gets an all black treatment, which though quite subtle but still makes it look sporty. The bumper gets a wider air dam and the fog lamps have been revised to be slimmer and rectangular. This new bumper in fact seems to be heavily inspired from the Polo GTi. Sadly, there is still no LED DRLs on the Polo and that’s a big miss.
Elsewhere, the Volkswagen Polo facelift gets a new blacked out roof with new alloy wheel designs as well. At the rear, there’s a roof mounted black spoiler and a blacked out portion in the bumper which looks kind of like a diffuser. The Polo pictured above is the GT TSi trim and some of the base variants might not get these sporty updates. The Volkswagen Vento will also receive the same updates as part of the facelift.
We expect some minor changes to the interiors as well. The infotainment screen might be available in a larger size and with new color options for the seats as well. We do not have any spy shots of the interiors but we are not expecting much updates there. Also, with the latest safety norms, it will also see an upgrade with the mandatory safety equipments which include a driver airbag, seat belt reminder for driver and co-driver, rear parking sensors and an overspeed alert for the driver.

The new update is that the the Polo and Vento will receive new engines under the hood as well. The TSI variants of both the cars will get a new BS-VI compliant 1.0-litre turbo-petrol which will be replacing the 1.2-litre engine and also the 1.6-litre MPI petrol engine. This new 1.0L TSI is from the EA211 series and it will be offered in two states of tune – 94 bhp and 115 bhp – depending on the model. This new engine will also be put in the Skoda Rapid, apart from the Polo and the Vento.

This new engine will be locally assembled in India as part of the brand’s India 2.0 strategy. Volkswagen is also working on introducing the T-Cross SUV and Virtus sedan in India as part of their India 2.0 strategy. However, it is still unknown if VW will introduce the cosmetic changes and the new engine updates together. The BS-VI norms will push the prices of the cars higher and it is likely that VW will introduce the engine updates a little later, closer to the BS-VI deadlines.
