Volkswagen India showcased its technological excellence in India by showcasing some of its excellent global products at the Auto Expo 2012 in India. One of the major attractions at the Auto Expo 2012 VW Pavilion was the new 21st Century Volkswagen Beetle. The new Beetle 2012 is fuel efficient, sporty and eco-friendly and comes with Bluemotion technology built into it. With more than 21.5 million units sold, the Beetle is one of the most successful cars ever produced in the history of automobile industry.

A technological highlight in efficiency of the New 21st Century Volkswagen Beetle Bluemotion is the 1.2 TSI with 105 PS engine. The turbocharged four-cylinder engine follows the downsizing philosophy of the globally successful 1.4 TSI, 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TSI engines. And this means: maximum power with minimum fuel consumption without losing out on the performance. This Beetle showcased here at the Auto Expo is equipped with a 7 speed DSG automatic transmission gearbox which means further reduction in fuel consumption.

The more powerful variant, the 2012 Beetle Sport is powered by a 1.4 l TSI with 160 PS has implemented a turbo and a supercharged four cylinder engine which delivers a power of 160 PS at 5800 rpm. It maximum torque of 240 Nm can be achieved at 4500 rpm. This Beetle can sprint a 0-100 km/h in 8.3 seconds proving that it is indeed sporty. The Beetle ‘Sport’ comes with a standard, factory-fitted XDS electronic differential lock which is essentially an extension of the familiar EDS functionality. XDS improves handling in fast bends and calibrates the car towards more “neutral” steering; it does this by using active brake intervention to prevent wheel spin of the unloaded wheel on the inside of the curve, which in turn improves traction.

This Beetle also sports brake calipers, black painted door mirror housings and side guard strips, rear spoiler, chrome strip in the air inlet screen, chrome-plated tailpipes and anodized aluminum trim strips. All of these features create one stylistically consistent unit, like that of a top level sports car.
