The Volkswagen Beetle sold over 21.5 million units in 58 years and is still counting, second only to the Ford Model-T in terms of all-time global sales. The second iteration of the modern day Bettle was introduced in 2011 and after years of delay Volkswagen India has finally brought the car back to our market. The new Bettle retains the iconic shape but features a more aggressive design which will enable it to cater to a wider demographic. The Volkswagen Beetle is priced at INR 28.73 lacs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). As we mentioned earlier, the Beetle will be brought in via the CBU route which has pushed the prices up.

Features And Specifications
The car comes with just one engine variant – 1.4 litre TSI motor producing 149 bhp of peak power. This engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.
Talking about the appearance of the car, the New Beetle will be 3.5 inches longer than the previous model and features a flatter roofline, a more upright windshield, a wider track, and a reduced front overhang. The car is spacious enough with the passenger’s compartment providing more headroom and a large cargo area and resembles the 2005 Ragster concept.

Interestingly the third generation of the car is due for the year 2018 and is expected feature a fully electric powertrain apart from the usual petrol and diesel engines. In India, it will rival the likes of the Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione, Mercedes-Benz A-Class, BMW 1-Series and the Mini Cooper.
