Volkswagen has finally jumped into the compact sedan bandwagon with the launch of a Polo-based sub 4-metre sedan. Christened as the Ameo, this new VW compact sedan for India has been positioned between the Polo and the Vento, and caters to the entry-level sedan buying lot. While the Ameo was expected to cost a few thousand rupees more than the Polo, the Volkswagen Ameo has been instead priced considerably lower than the Polo! All this means that the launch of the Ameo could have marked a significant new beginning for the Indian subsidiary of Volkswagen. While you can see our detailed Volkswagen Ameo review HERE, this post here will take you through all the details of the new compact sedan from Volkswagen India.

The Ameo is smaller and slightly less feature-laden than the Vento full-size sedan. Hence, everybody expected the Ameo compact sedan from Volkswagen to be priced much lesser than the Vento but slightly higher than the Polo hatchback. However, Volkswagen has surprised everyone with the shattering price of the new Ameo. The new Ameo is priced right in the Maruti Swift Dzire territory. And it is priced competitively enough to wage a war with all the compact sedans- Tata Zest, Ford Figo Aspire, Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Xcent.

Volkswagen Ameo Design
Akin to all cars in the compact sedan segment, the Ameo looks like a hatchback that tries a bit too hard to look like a full-sized sedan, which means that the new Volkswagen car in India looks like a truncated version of the Vento. However, we do feel that the Ameo looks better proportioned than some of its rivals. The upcoming car is expected to feature many panels of the Polo/Vento, but gets a different boot lid, a new set of taillamps, a new front grille and a new set of mag rims. The interior, however, has been lifted straight off the Polo.
