In a bizarre turn of events, a vlogger awards NCAP safety rating to the new Hyundai Exter by lifting its bonnet. It is simply bizarre what YouTubers do to create content these days. Exter is a popular micro SUV which is doing well in terms of sales right from its launch. The overall trend of people buying SUVs is at an all-time high. As a result, Hyundai leveraged that to ensure that it offers a micro SUV at an extremely affordable price point. That led to the inception of Exter. Additionally, the Korean auto giant has equipped it with the latest tech, convenience, connectivity and standard safety features to attract new customers. For now, let us take a look at the details of this latest case.

Vlogger Guesses NCAP Safety Rating of Hyundai Exter
This short video comes from mrdriive on YouTube. It captures a rather weird incident. The vlogger opens up the bonnet of the Exter. He announces that he is comparing the weight of the bonnet of Exter and Tata Punch. He goes to the front and lifts the bonnet with one hand. Just by doing this a couple of times, he claims that the vehicle will be able to bring a decent 3 to 4 stars at the Global NCAP crash test. We don’t need to tell you that this is an utterly stupid and useless way of guessing the safety rating of any car.

NCAP Safety Test
The Global NCAP testing is a rigorous method to determine the build quality of any car. In addition to that, it awards a car for possessing active and passive safety features. Therefore, it gives an overall score, taking into consideration all the necessary elements that it must have in order to display safety on roads. As a matter of fact, it also takes into account pedestrian safety for when a car hits a person on the road. For that, the bumper and bonnet need to be in a certain way to avoid injury to pedestrians. Therefore, one can’t simply lift the bonnet and pass on judgement about the safety of any car.

What We Think
It is clear that you shouldn’t trust these videos completely. Lots of YouTubers make this kind of content, but it’s mostly for fun. So, don’t jump to conclusions based on them. The real experts who rate car safety look at many things like how the car keeps you safe in crashes and how it helps you avoid accidents. They do this in a safe and controlled place. That’s why we suggest you not to take these videos too seriously. Instead, it’s better to trust the official safety ratings given by experts. For example, Hyundai is putting 6 airbags in the basic version of the Exter. This means the car might get a good safety rating, but we can’t be sure until the experts test it properly.
