During his early days with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Virat Kohli was sent to the airport in Maruti Omni Van which he hated.
Virat Kohli has a huge car collection now. Along with humble cars like Renault Duster and Fortuner, the famous cricketer has also owned many Audis (Audi R8, Range Rovers, Audi Q7). It is safe to assume that he is a huge car enthusiast. However, there was a time he had to travel in not so great vehicles. Virat Kohli recalled one such experience during the RCB podcast. The Indian skipper was quite disappointed when he had to travel in an ‘Omni van’ while most of the other players were traveling in decent cars.

Virat Kohli first signed with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2008. He ended up playing in the IPL 2008. However, he had an unpleasant experience involving a Maruti Omni Van. During the RCB podcast, the Indian cricketer revealed that he was taken to the airport in an old Omni van. Apparently, he really hated the car. “Sorry to say, that was not a good car,” he commented. However, it is likely that his disappointment was mostly due to other players traveling in decent cars.
“After the season, because I was an Under-19 boy, I was sent to the airport in an Omni van. Everyone else was getting a decent car to go, and I was the only one that was left, and they probably would have said just give him anything and just get him to the airport. And that was not a good car, I’m sorry to say, but I would have loved at least a decent car which was not broken, something through which I could see the road, this one was on its last leg. So, not a good memory,” Virat Kohli explained.

Virat Kohli has come a long way in the last decade, from a new kid to eventually leading the franchise in the Indian Premier League. On the other hand, Maruti has now stopped the production of the Omni after 35 years. The popular car was cheap and quite unsafe. Maruti Suzuki Omni is available in 16 variants, 1 engine option and manual transmission. It offers a mileage of 10.9 kmpl to 14.96 kmpl. The 2 seater Minivan/Van was last sold with a price tag of Rs 2.08 – 3.07 Lakh. Mostly used for cheap transportation, the Maruti car is infamous as a kidnapping vehicle in Bollywood movies. It was first introduced in India in 1984.
