Kohli Dents Tata Tiago EV
The video has been uploaded by Cricket Lytical on YouTube. Being the title sponsor this year, Tata Motors display their Tiago EV as a demo car as well as for advertisement purposes. It is a tradition that is followed every season if a car company sponsors the event. Since the event is watched by millions of fans, there can’t be a more appropriate place for any company to market its product. However, the thing with placing cars inside the ground of a cricket match is that they become vulnerable to the leather ball hitting them. We have seen this in the past and this is yet another latest case in point.

During the match between RCB and SRH, Virat Kohli was batting. It was the 9th over when he hit Nitish Rana for a beautiful boundary. However, the ball bound off the boundary line and ended up hitting the side of the Tiago EV. There was a visible dent on the door panel of the EV. Netizens took notice and started commenting on the build quality of the car. Note that Tiago is a 4-star safety-rated car at the Global NCAP. But we must mention that such instances can’t be taken at face value to derive conclusions regarding the build quality of any vehicle.

The ball used in cricket is extremely hard. Moreover, when a batsman hits it out of the park, the force behind it is immense. We have seen people getting serious injuries after getting hit by the ball around the ground and on the field. Therefore, if they hit a car with huge force, it is quite natural for the sheet metal to get bent or deformed. If they hit the windshield, the glass is bound to shatter. Hence, we must not read too much into this and consider it just another occurrence on a cricket field.
