Piaggio has unveiled a limited edition of the Vespa called the Vespa Elegante in India along with a list of additional features and colours. Based on the Vespa VX, the Vespa Elegante will be launched on the 20th of September and will be restricted to only 3,500 units. No word on the pricing yet but we expect it to command a premium of around Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 over the Vespa VX which retails for Rs. 72,303 (ex-showroom Mumbai).
Like all other special edition/limited edition variants of the Vespa, the Elegante is gets visual modifications only. Nothing has been changed in terms of mechanicals. The Vespa Elegante is visually very different from the standard Vespa VX though, which is a good thing.
What’s New?
The Vespa Elegante gets some additional features which include:
- Two new colour schemes:
Marrone Crete Senesi- Which is a shade of brown with beige seats.
Bianco Perla- Shade of white with dark red seats.
- A squarish grille in place of the usual circular grille.
- Split seats
- New grab-rail for the pillion
- Colour coordinated split seats.
- An all-round chrome guard kit along with a front bumper guard
- Limited Edition “Elegante” badge
- Colour coordinated half face helmets.
Mechanically, however, no changes have been made with the familiar 125 cc, single cylinder, 3 valve, air cooled engine powering the Vespa Elegante. The engine produces 9 BHP of peak power and 10.6 Nm peak torque. No changes have been made to the suspension or brakes either.
The Vespa Elegante is the joins the Vespa LX, VX, S and Esclusivo variants which are currently on sale in India which are manufactured at the company’s facility at Baramati near Pune, Maharashtra.
