Tata Motors is attempting to rekindle the old and lost glory of its Sumo brand and ramping up its market share in the booming utility segment. The latest attempt in this regard is the Tata Sumo Gold which was revealed during the HORIZONEXT event in Pune, a few months ago.
Changes to the MUV include subtle changes on the outside, design changes inside and new features. Changes have been made to the way the MUV handles and the NVH levels inside the car for a more relaxed driving experience.
To spice up the looks, the new Tata Sumo Gold is decorated with a chrome front grille, new body graphics and 15-inch wheels with new wheel covers and optional alloy wheels. You can choose the car from four different colors – red, grey, silver and white.
On the inside, the vehicle comes with improved NVH levels, an advanced music system that supports USB and Bluetooth. For extra comfort, you will find dual AC to sooth the passengers on middle and third row seats. To make your driving even more pleasurable, the clutch, gearshifts and suspension have been worked upon to make the MUV more driveable become further smooth.
However, there is no change in the engine as compared to the previous MUV. Hence, you get a 3.0-litre CR4 diesel engine with maximum power of 84 BHP and maximum torque of 250 Nm. All the 5 variants, namely – GX, FX, EX, LX and CX have a 5-speed manual gearbox. The new and improved car has given an ARAI mileage of 15.3 km/l under test conditions.
The Tata Sumo Gold will face competition from the likes of Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Mahindra Quanto. Though it is not a premium product, the durability of the MUV is enough to get it a lot of buyers especially in the rural and utility market.
