In this post, I shall take a look at the upcoming Toyota cars in India in 2024. 2024 is slated to be an exciting year for the Indian automobile industry. It has already recovered from a long slump due to the pandemic and semi-conductor supply shortage for the past couple of years. This year, the sales are positive and encouraging. In fact, the last couple of months which comprise of the festive season, were particularly healthy for the sales charts. Hence, I am expecting the momentum to carry on to the next year too. Let us check out the details of the prominent models the Japanese carmaker might launch in 2024.

Toyota Taisor
First on the roster is the Toyota Taisor crossover. Serving as Toyota’s counterpart to the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, this model is part of the collaborative efforts between Toyota and Suzuki within their joint venture. Given their practice of badge engineering, where each automaker sells the other’s cars under its brand logo, we anticipate minimal alterations in terms of exterior styling, interior layout, features, or powertrains. Essentially, the Taisor is expected to be a Toyota-branded version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, equipped with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.0-litre turbo petrol engines, available with both manual and automatic transmissions.
Specs | Toyota Taisor |
Engine | 1.2-litre petrol & 1.0-litre turbo petrol |
Power | 89 hp & 99 hp |
Torque | 113 Nm & 148 Nm |
Transmission | 5MT / 6AT |
Expected Price | Rs 7.50 lakh – Rs 13.20 lakh |

New Toyota Fortuner
The mighty Toyota Fortuner is about to receive an update as well. There are tons of reports floating around on the internet about the arrival of a new Fortuner. It could even boast a diesel hybrid powertrain. Toyota unveiled a 48 V hybrid system a few months ago. It offers a seamless stop-and-go function, high fuel efficiency, higher low-end torque and better water-wading performance. At the moment, the Fortuner is the most successful 7-seat off-roader in the country. Known for its reliability and off-roading prowess, even some top Bollywood celebrities opt for it. However, Toyota has not updated it for a long time now. We can expect the new Fortuner to arrive in the coming year with aesthetic, mechanical and interior changes.

Toyota Urban Cruiser (Maruti Brezza-based)
Finally, Toyota fans are also eagerly waiting for the Brezza-based version of the Urban Cruiser. We know that Toyota and Suzuki operate under a joint venture. In India, we have seen it with the Baleno-Glanza, Brezza-Urban Cruiser, Innova Hycross-Invicto, etc. These two companies sell similar products with different brand names. As mentioned previously, this is called badge engineering. While the new Maruti Brezza has been around for a while now, we are yet to receive Toyota’s iteration. Therefore, we can expect it to hit our markets in 2024. It won’t sport any major exterior or interior changes. Moreover, it will carry similar powertrains as the Brezza.

Author’s Note
Toyota relies heavily on the sales of Fortuner and iterations of Innova in the form of Crysta and Hycross. On top of that, it gets quite a few sales from the Maruti-based products as well. Hence, a combination of these cars will ensure that the Japanese carmaker continues to sell vehicles in decent numbers. We are particularly excited about the new Fortuner. The other two will simply be the badge-engineered versions of Maruti products.
