Audi Q2
The Audi Q2 will soon become the smallest SUV in the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer’s portfolio. The Audi Q2 India launch could happen in mid-2017. It will usher in a fresh new design from the famous premium car marque. It will be almost as big as the Q3, but is likely to look a lot sportier. Prices could start at Rs 27 lakh.

Audi Q5 (New)
Even the new Audi Q5 will launch this year. The new generation Q5 will rival the likes of Mercedes GLC and is an all-new product. It’s as much as 90 KGs lighter now, and will come with 2.0 and 3.0 Turbo Diesel engines. It will look a lot like a slightly smaller Q7, which isn’t a bad thing at all. It will get features like a Virtual Cockpit and panoramic sunroof. Expect prices to start at roughly Rs 60 lakh.

BMW X7
Yes, the 7-Series of SUVs is headed to India! Easily among the most expensive of all upcoming SUVs this year, the BMW X7 is based on the latest 7’er. Of course, with a price tag of around Rs 1.25 crore, it will cost a bomb. However, it will offer unmatched luxury, powerful engines and will have seats for seven. It will rival the likes of Mercedes GLS and the Audi Q7. Engine options will include a 3.0-litre diesel and even a 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol.

Datsun Go Cross
Datsun will launch a new crossover this year. The upcoming Datsun Go Cross will be essentially a Go+ that went on a steroids diet. So far, the Go and the Go+ haven’t been able to find many takers. The Go Cross, however, might change all this with its rugged SUV-ish looks and probably a killer price tag. Launch might happen as soon as in April this year.

Ford EcoSport Facelift
The much awaited EcoSport facelift should launch here by this year’s festive period. It wl feature fresher styling, which will be courtesy of a new nose and some more cosmetic updates. Even the interior is likely to be spruced up. Engines will come from the current model. Prices are, in fact, likely to go down. This will help the EcoSport reclaim the lost ground from the seemingly invincible Vitara Brezza. One of the more important Upcoming SUVs in 2017, this one!

Honda HRV
Honda is expected to bring the much awaited HR-V small SUV to India this year. The BR-V hasn’t quite managed to sell in in big numbers. Honda will be hoping to carve out a bigger chunk of the SVU/crossover pie with the help of the HRV. According to our sources, the HR-V will be launched in India before the end of 2017. It will get a 1.5 Petrol and 1.5 L Diesel mostly. In terms of pricing, it will sit above the BR-V and Hyundai Creta.

Honda CRV
Another upcoming new SUV from Honda is the new generation CR-V. The new CR-V builds on the current model’s strengths and gets an all-new design. Also, it’s bigger on the inside. The new CR-V will hence come with a 7-seat configuration. There’s still no Diesel engine on the anvil. The current 2.4-litre Petrol motor will be carried over. However, the new CR-V could also get a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. Both the engines will be paired with a CVT.

Jeep Compass
Iconic SUV maker Jeep made its India debut with the Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee SRT and the Wrangler last year. However, with all these models commanding a rather high price tag, the manufacturer is yet to make inroads into the mainstream car market. All this, however, is set to change with the Jeep Compass. Expected to launch around August this year, the Jeep Compass could cost around Rs 20 lakh. Engine options could include a 2.0-litre Multijet Diesel and a 1.4-litre Turbo petrol.

Mahindra TUV500
Mahindra could launch a bigger sibling of the TUV300 in the form of the TUV500. The Mahindra TUV500 will have a starting price of roughly Rs 8.5 lakh. Engine will come from the TUV300, probably in the same state of tune. We expect the launch to happen around August this year.

Mahindra SsangYong Rexton
SsangYong’s fourth generation Rexton will come to India by the end of 2017, but with a Mahindra badge. The upcoming SUV will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. It could undercut its two biggest rivals in terms of pricing giving it a slight advantage. Powering the upcoming Mahindra SUV will be a 2.2 L Diesel unit that will come with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic.

Maruti S Cross facelift
The S Cross facelift should be here before this year’s festive season. It will feature fresher, bolder styling and probably a handful of new features. The upcoming facelift will also see the introduction of a 1.0 Turbo petrol engine. This is the same engine that powers the Baleno RS. It could also get a slight price correction. We have always liked the S Cross for its powerful 1.6 Litre Diesel engine, decent ride and handling manners and competent (post price-cut) pricing. The S Cross facelift, in all probability, will make the deal even sweeter.

Nissan X-Trail (New)

Renault Kaptur

Skoda will launch its new SUV flagship, the Kodiaq, in India this year. The upcoming SUV from Skoda will rival the likes of Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Fortuner. Tata Nexon
The Nexon will launch around August-October this year. It will rival the Ford EcoSport and the Vitara Brezza and will go on to become a logical successor to the rather iconic Tata Sierra. Prices could start at roughly Rs 6.5 lakh. The Nexon should impress with its modern styling, long list of features and frugal yet sufficiently powerful engines.

Volvo XC60 (Second Generation)
Volvo unveiled the second generation of the XC60 SUV in March 2017 at the Geneva Motor Show. And they will be bringing the SUV to India by the end of 2017. It will replace the current first generation XC60 that has sold nearly a million units globally. 2018 Volvo XC60 price in India is likely to start at around 55 lakhs. India will get the D5 diesel variant in the fully loaded Inscription trim.

Chevrolet Trailblazer Facelift (Cancelled)
The Trailblazer came to us in 2015. However, it wasn’t able to do much good to Chevy’s fast-declining sales figures. Chevrolet was gearing up to launch the Trailblazer facelift in India in 2017. The Trailblazer facelift looks a lot more stylish and is likely to come with some new features. However, with GM pulling out of the Indian market, the Trailblazer facelift will not be launched in India.

New SUVs Launched in India in 2017
Volkswagen Tiguan
Another really important model for Volkswagen India is the Tiguan. Launched in May 2017, the Tiguan rivals the likes of Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner. It comes with the tried and tested 2.0 Diesel engine mated to a 7-speed DSG. AWD is standard. Prices start at almost Rs. 28 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Production of the Tiguan is already underway at Volkswagen’s plant in Aurangabad.

Isuzu MU-X
Isuzu launched their Fortuner and Endeavour rival in India this year. The new MU-X replaces the ageing MU-7 SUV. The Isuzu MUX shares its platform with the Chevrolet Trailblazer. It bears some resemblance to it in terms of interior and exterior design. Powering the MU-X in India is a 3.0 L Diesel engine that makes 177 HP and 380 Nm. Prices start at Rs. 24 lakh (ex-showroom).
