Carrying on with our listicle series, we take a look at the details of the upcoming sedans in India in 2024. Sedan is a segment which has been severely impacted by the unprecedented popularity of the SUVs. In India, and even across the globe, we have seen SUVs dominating a lot of major segments. In our market in particular, the carmakers have created new SUV segments to access a wide range of audience. This has worked well as people get attracted to the road presence of the SUV even if it is not a large 7-seat SUV. Hence, sedans are getting lower on sales charts year after year. Still, there are some prominent sedans in this India. Going forward, we shall see a few more on the roads.

New Generation Maruti Dzire
Over the years, the Swift and Dzire pair has maintained a consistent pattern of sharing similar powertrains, aesthetics, and features. This trend is anticipated to continue, with no indications suggesting otherwise this time. Notably, in India, the refreshed Dzire typically makes its debut ahead of the Swift. The updated Dzire is likely to mirror the facelifted Swift in both exterior and interior aspects, and it is expected to share powertrain options with its counterpart. The only conceivable variation might be in the Tour variant, a version tailored by Maruti specifically for fleet operators.

Skoda Superb Relaunch
Skoda is poised to reintroduce the previous-generation Superb sedan in limited quantities to the Indian market, marking its return post its discontinuation due to the BS6.2 implementation. The company’s strategy involves bringing it back with an enhanced 190hp, 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, coupled with an exclusive 7-speed DSG gearbox. Noteworthy changes include the transition of the Superb from local assembly to being imported as a completely built-up unit (CBU). The revival will be exclusive to the top-spec L&K trim, featuring new upgrades such as ADAS with lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, an updated infotainment system, adaptive chassis control technology, an active tire pressure monitoring system, and a comprehensive nine-airbag setup. While official confirmation is pending, there is optimistic anticipation for the eventual introduction of the new-generation Superb in the Indian market.

Skoda Octavia RS
Skoda will launch its first plug-in hybrid model in the form of the Octavia RS iV. Based on the now-defunct fourth-gen Octavia, this model will get a 245hp hybrid powertrain. The RS iV will come to us a completely built unit (CBU) route. As per the latest policy, carmakers can import up to 2,500 cars annually without the requirement for homologation. Powering the Octavia RS iV will be a combination of fossil and green technology. Replacing the 2.0-litre petrol engine from the previous-gen RS 245, the new RS will have a 1.4-litre, four-cylinder TSI petrol engine. This engine, producing 150hp, is complemented by a 116hp electric motor, resulting in a total power output of 245hp and 400Nm of torque. Top speed and 0-100 km/h acceleration, though, will be marginally lower than before.

New Generation Skoda Superb
The latest Superb showcases Skoda’s fresh Modern Solid design language. It comes in two European market body styles: sedan and combi (estate). Of course, it’s the sedan that will arrive in India. The new Superb is longer 43mm, measuring 4,912mm. It’s15mm narrower at 1,849mm and 12mm taller at 1,481mm. The wheelbase remains consistent at 2,841mm. The upcoming generation of the Superb in our market will feature a petrol engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, delivering 204 PS. Unlike the international version, all-wheel drive will not be available. However, in Europe, a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder plug-in hybrid variant with a 100-kilometer electric-only range is offered, and there is potential for its introduction in our market as well.
