In this post, we shall discuss the upcoming cars from Renault in India. Renault is a prominent French carmaker which enjoys moderate success in our market. Arguably, the most successful car from Renault in our market was the Duster. It led to the inception of the mid-size SUV segment in India. However, due to fierce competition in the segment and a lack of updates, it suffered from low sales. Hence, it was discontinued in 2021. Thereafter, other vehicles gained prominence. In the latest news, Renault announced that it would launch 5 new cars in India in the next 3 years. These include 2 next-gen cars, 2 new SUVs and 1 localised EV. Let us take a look at the details of these here.

Renault K-ZE (Kwid Electric)
Arguably the most exciting of the upcoming Renault cars in India has to be the electric Kwid. It will be the electric version of the existing Kwid micro SUV. However, it could come with a whole bunch of changes. Venkatram Mamillapalle, MD of Renault India had earlier confirmed that, “We are going ahead with our EV plans. The EV for India is built around the CMF-A platform, and you may see it in 2024 or 2025. We are trying our best to bring it at the earliest, but the exact timeline is not yet firmed up. Renault’s first EV for India is likely to come with a localisation level of 55-60 percent to begin with. However, the company is very keen on sourcing batteries and cells locally to bring down the cost to ensure higher penetration for Renault’s EVs in the future”.
At the moment, the French automaker already sells the electric Kwid in Europe and China. It comes with a 26.8 kWh battery pack. This battery pack supplies power to an electric motor to produce a decent 44 hp and 125 Nm of peak power and torque. It has a WLTP range of a decent 295 km on a single charge. There are significant design changes to transform it into an EV. This includes the removal of the fuel tank, flat floor, suspension tweak and more. Renault will be able to offer it under the magic number of Rs 10 lakh. We already know how successful this price bracket is for EVs considering the sales of Tata Tiago EV and Tigor EV.

New Renault Duster
The new Duster recently had a global debut. The latest iteration of the Renault Duster is built on the carmaker’s CMF-B modular platform, a design created through the Renault-Nissan alliance. Available in both Renault and Nissan versions, the new-generation model maintains its iconic boxy silhouette and distinct SUV allure, drawing inspiration from the Bigster concept. With a length of 4,343 mm, the new Duster is larger than its well-known predecessor, and it features a wheelbase measuring 2,657 mm, ensuring a notable presence on the road. There will be multiple engines on offer in the international market. We shall have to wait to know which engines make it to the Indian-spec model. The India debut could take place by the end of 2024 with the launch following in 2025.

Next-Gen Renault Triber
The Renault Triber is among the most affordable 7-seat vehicles in the country. It has an MPV silhouette designed cleverly to accommodate 7 people. It has been doing fairly well in our market for a long time now. However, the model has not received any major updates since its inception. But the French auto giant confirms that the next-gen model will arrive in India in the coming years. That could feature new styling, interior, features and even have a new powertrain.
At the moment, it lacks is a peppy turbo engine. That might be about to change. In the coming months, we might finally get the turbo variant of the Triber. This would be the same mill which powers the Kiger. It is a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine which generates a healthy 100 PS and 160 Nm of peak power and torque. This would help the compact MPV when it is carrying 7 persons on the road.

Next-Gen Renault Kiger
The Renault Kiger was first launched in India back in March 2021. It is a great alternative to other compact SUVs in our market. The trend of smaller SUVs is at an all-time high in India. Almost all major players have some model in this space. That is why it is a prominent SUV for Renault. In fact, the Kiger generates the most sales for the French auto giant in our market. However, there has not been any facelift for the Kiger ever since its launch. Therefore, in order to keep the compact SUV fresh, it is critical that Renault updates the Kiger. There will be aesthetic changes to the next-gen model along with the addition of some new features to attract new customers. The details of these new elements will be unveiled closer to the launch.

New B+ SUV
This is quite a mystery for now. Going by the nomenclature, this SUV should be position below the Duster and above the Kiger. Hence, we are looking at the Tata Nexon rival. This segment is heating up in the country. People who initially wanted to purchase a hatchback or a sedan are rather going for the SUV. It offers them practicality and road presence. Therefore, Renaults wants to leverage this growing trend and introduce a product to bridge this gap in its portfolio. These upcoming Renault cars will offer new features, new variants and new value proposition to undercut its rivals. More details will be unveiled in the coming months.

Author’s Note
Renault is a carmaker which relies heavily on the sales of three products in India – Kwid, Triber and Kiger. All of these compete in high-volume segments in the market. Hence, it makes sense to improve on each of these cars. In addition, the mid-size SUV segment is also massively popular in India. The Hyundai Creta is the king of this segment. However, with the new Duster, Renault has a chance to grab a large market share. Let us keep an eye out for these upcoming Renault cars in India soon.
