Royal Enfield will go on a product offensive strategy soon after the COVID-19 crisis and the first among them will be the Meteor 350. Following that, there are names like the Hunter, Sherpa and Flying Flea waiting in the pipeline.
The coronavirus scare may have damped the automotive industry by a great deal, but once operations resume and normalcy is restored, the industry will bounce back with a fresh vigor. Perhaps the one about whom you should be most excited about is Royal Enfield. Royal Enfield plans to go on a product offensive strategy once COVID-19 subsides and they have quite some new products in the pipeline. According to Simon Warburton, Head of Product Development at Royal Enfield, the company is exploring many new ideas for new products that could go into production in the future.
The first of these products will be the new Meteor 350 that’s coming as a replacement for the Thunderbird family. The Meteor 350 is also going to be a global product, which means its not limited to India alone. Going forward, Royal Enfield is also looking at expanding their audience to include new riders that even includes female riders. There are reports of RE working on a brand new platform which is lighter and much more accessible. We are however not sure about what exactly the product will be at this point of time.
Even the Himalayan is due a major revamp which should see it completely changed. Likely to be called the Sherpa, the next-gen Himalayan could see an increase in its engine capacity with much of the problems addressed of the current-gen motorcycle. RE has also patented other names like the Flying Flea and the Hunter, details of which are scarce as of yet. We have also seen a roadster style motorcycle like the Triumph Bonnevilles being tested on several occasions and one of these names could be used for this motorcycle as well.

If the current 650 twins are any standards to go by in terms of quality and performance, the future seems very exciting at Royal Enfield which could see a completely revamped product lineup. These products are expected to be much more well-rounded products and that should establish RE as a leader in the mid-displacement segment not only in India, but on a global scale. The current situation has been hard for all automobile manufacturers but Royal Enfield says that they will not be affected much even with a slowdown in sales for a couple of months more. The manufacturer sold only 91 units in April 2020.

RE boss Siddhartha Lal does not seem stressed about the current situation. He says, “If we have a few months of zero revenue, which is possibly the case right now; it’s okay, we will survive. We’re not hand to mouth anymore, like we were a decade ago, so we can invest tremendously in the future. We want to focus, to do less. It’s not that we will never look outside of our portfolio, but we believe our opportunity is to grow Royal Enfield right now.”
