This means the Kwid’s fuel efficiency figures are more than Maruti Alto 800‘s 22.74 kmpl and better than the Tata Nano‘s 23.6 kmpl. The global reveal took place recently and it was clear from the showcase that Renault has pulled out all the stops to ensure the Kwid is capable of taking on the Maruti Alto 800. Ford Figo
The Ford Fiesta is one of India’s most fuel efficient diesel sedans returning a very healthy 25 kmpl. Although that hasn’t helped sales at all and its main rivals boast of better fuel efficiency figures, Ford is likely to ensure that the upcoming Figo hatchback and sedan get a fuel efficiency rating that is among the best in India. Especially since the diesel versions of the Figo will be powered by the same 1.5 litre motor that powers the Fiesta. We expect fuel efficiency rating of upward of 25 kmpl for the Figo hatchback. If Ford manages to achieve that then, combined with the Figo’s good looks, a strong list of features and Ford’s well sorted driving dynamics, the hatchback could easily emulate the outgoing model’s initial success.
- Estimated Price: INR 5-7.5 lakhs (ex-showroom)
- Launch: October 2015
- Estimated Mileage: 25 kmpl (diesel)

Maruti Fronx (YRA Hatchback)
Maruti‘s upcoming large hatchback which will be targetting the Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz should deliver class-leading fuel efficiency for the petrol model. Fuel Efficiency ratings could be in the region of 20-21 kmpl for the petrol model while the diesel could easily return 25 kmpl. Its biggest rival, the Hyundai Elite i20, has a rated mileage of 18.6 kmpl and the Fronx can easily better that with its small capacity 1.0-litre engine. The car has been unveiled prior to its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015 and has been christened the Baleno for international markets.
