The Citroen C3X crossover sedan has been spied testing recently. The French car marque already has 4 products in our market. These include C5 Aircross, C3, e-C3 and C3 Aircross. It is focusing on the various SUV segments in our market. That is understandable since the trend of SUVs is at an all-time high. With significant SUVs already in the portfolio, now it might be heading to a new category. The high-riding sedan is what we are witnessing being tested by Citroen at the moment. Here are all the details of what we can expect.

These images come from Bunny Punia via carsadvisor on Instagram. Since the testing is at an initial stage, the entire vehicle is under heavy camouflage. We are barely able to witness the front fascia. At the rear, it looks like it is carrying some equipment. This is common among test mules to measure various parameters of the engine’s performance. But since it would aim to rival the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia, it will be based on the C3 Aircross. That should inform you about the dimensions that you could expect it to carry. In fact, we might also see an electric version of the same.

Specs
Since it will be a derivative of the same platform as the C3 Aircross, it will most likely carry the same powertrain option too. This means that we will see it with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. In the C3 Aircross, this mill churns out 110 hp and 190 Nm of peak power and torque. At the moment, there is only a 6-speed manual transmission. The automatic gearbox might find its way at a later stage. It will be interesting to see how well audiences receive a high-riding sedan in this age of SUVs.

What We Think
Citroen is trying to establish itself in our highly competitive market. It adopted the right approach by going with SUVs for the first phase of its operations in India. Having enough SUVs in its portfolio, now it aims to shift its focus to other segments. Leveraging the platform, powertrains, transmission and level of localisation, it wants to maximize the number of products in its lineup. That is where a product like the C3X comes into the picture. Let us see how the buyers like it in times to come.
