The first one to make our list of upcoming cars in India for January 2019 is the all-new Tata Harrier SUV.
The Tata Harrier SUV has to be amongst one of the highly awaited launches scheduled for the year 2019. The Harrier, which made its debut in India as a concept iteration i.e. the H5X, during the 2018 Auto Expo, is based on a Land Rover derived platform.
It is going to launch in India with a diesel engine under its hood. This diesel engine is going to be the same unit which currently also performs its duty under the hood of the Jeep Compass. However, this aforementioned 2.0-litre Multi-jet engine available in the Harrier will produce just 140 BHP of power in comparison to the latter’s 170 BHP.

That said the torque figures still remain the same at 350 Nm. What might come as a surprise to some is that at the time of its launch in January, the Harrier will not get an automatic gearbox. Rather, it will make do with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Now, Tata Motors, in a twitter reply confirmed officially that the prices for the Tata Harrier are going to fall in between the range of INR 16 lakh to 21 lakh. Thus, it becomes quite easy to deduce that the ex-showroom prices of this SUV will fall in-between the range of INR 13 lakh to INR 19 lakh. With this, the Tata Harrier will compete against the likes of Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV5OO and the top-end variants of the Hyundai Creta.
The second vehicle to make on the list of upcoming cars in India during the month of January 2019 is the all-new Nissan Kicks
Now just like Tata Motors, Nissan India is too going to introduce an all-new compact SUV in the Indian market. When we say all-new we mean new in terms of its aesthetics. You see, the Nissan Kicks uses the same underpinnings which we have seen on the Nissan Terrano and two other compact SUVs from Renault’s portfolio (Under Nissan-Renault Alliance).
That said, in terms of its exterior design, interior layout and the equipment list, the Kicks stands second to none. With the Kicks, Nissan plans to exploit the current demand of premium urban soft-roaders which are loaded up-to-the-brim with features and creature comforts.
In terms of engine specifications, the Nissan Kicks comes with the same engine configuration as the Nissan Terrano. Its gets a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine which is capable of churning out 106 BHP of power along with 142 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, it is going to come with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine which is capable of churning out 108 BHP along with 250 Nm of peak torque.
Interestingly, Nissan has decided not to introduce an automatic gearbox in the Kicks at the time of the launch. This could make its debut at a later stage if the demand exists. The decision of not to do so is done in order to keep the sticker price low.
Since the Kicks is going to fall in the same segment as that of the Hyundai Creta, we estimate a starting price tag of INR 9 lakh. The top-end variant can comfortably touch INR 15 lakh.

The third car which joins the list of upcoming cars in India for the month of January 2019 is the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R.
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been a very important product in the portfolio of the Indo-Japanese automaker in our country. The same has been making its way in the list of India’s top 10 best selling cars month after month since its launch.
However, with the competition increasing in its segment, the launch of its next-generation iteration is the need of the hour. With the help of a recent and only spy shot of the 2019 Maruti Wagon R recently surfacing on the internet it has become apparent that the family hatchback will continue to come with its tall-boy stance even in its new avatar.
It is quite obvious that with this generation update, the Wagon R is going to get a significant upgrade in terms of its onboard features and creature comforts. Not only this but in order to meet the upcoming safety regulations, in addition to a stiffer structure, it will also have several active safety features as well.

There have been rumours that Maruti Suzuki might use the existing platform of the Wagon R in the new iteration with certain structural improvements and avoid using the new lightweight HEARTECT unit in order to keep the costs low.
Whatever it may be, do not expect the prices of the 2019 Maruti Wagon R to increase to a large extent and continue to fall in-between the range of INR 4 lakh to INR 6.5 lakh.
The last and final car which makes it to the confirmed list of upcoming cars in India for January 2019 is the next-generation Toyota Camry
After a wait of almost six-years, Toyota India has finally decided to launch the next-generation iteration of its premium sedan, the Camry in the Indian market. With the downfall of the premium sedan segment due to the demand for SUV, such vehicles, in the recent past, have observed very low sales. However, with the launch of several new products, the segment seems to have been revising ever so slightly.
The new generation Toyota Camry is based on a slightly modified version of Toyota’s new TGNA platform. It gets an all-new exterior and interior design while at the same time, offer a plethora of features onboard.
In terms of its engine specifications, the new Toyota Camry is going to offer both hybrids as well as no-hybrid powertrain options. As standard, this sedan is going to come with a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine. This unit is a slightly re-worked version of the same engine which powers the current generation of this sedan.
In the new guise, it will churn out 176 BHP along with 221 Nm of peak torque. The Hybrid iteration is going to come with an electric motor producing an equivalent of 118 BHP. This is going to take its combined power output to 208 BHP. The car is going to come as standard with an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The Hyrbird iteration, however, will offer a CVT unit with paddle shifters.
