Showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, Mahindra plans to launch Atom as a commercial product. It is essentially a quad cycle that could be a great substitute for the auto-rickshaws. The 3-seater electric car has basic features like AC and USB Charging. Mahindra claims the top speed for the Atom to be 50 km/h and 5 hours of charging time. The range offered by Atom would be around 120 km on a single charge. The expected prices are around Rs 4 lakh, ex-showroom and the launch could be in 2022.
Strom R3

The Mumbai-based startup, Strom Motors, have developed the 3-wheeler (2 at the front; 1 at the rear) EV with a 15 kW electric motor capable of achieving 80 km/h top speed. Depending on the variant, you could expect the range of 120 km to 200 km on a single charge and a charging time of around 3 hours. It boasts of all the fundamental features like AC, power steering, infotainment system, sunroof etc. The small EV is developed to tackle the traffic conditions of big cities. The 24 kWh battery pack could be charged fully in 5 hours using a regular charger and in just 1 hour using a fast charger. It boasts of an impressive range of 210 km on a single charge. The Ora R1 is a model that is already on sale in various international markets. Great Wall Motors had tried to enter the Indian market last year, but the deal was not finalised somehow. The R1 boasts a top speed of 100 km/h and over 350 km of range. It takes 6-7 hours to charge its battery using a regular charger and only 2 hours with the fast charger. However, the JV fell through and the Jayem Automotives decided to rename it Neo EV. It has been spotted testing near Pune several times. With improved interior and safety aspects, the EV would have a power output of 24 hp and a top speed of 85 km/h. The 17.7 kWh Li-ion battery would enable a range of 200 km on a single charge. The FAME II scheme has been approved for this EV even before its launch.
