Mahindra dealerships have now started accepting bookings for the 2020 Thar which is expected to be launched in the next 3-4 months.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, launches of many cars were delayed. One of them included the next generation Mahindra Thar, which could have possibly been launched by now. Now, we can confirm that dealerships in most of the metro cities have opened the unofficial bookings for the new generation Thar.
Our dealership sources suggest that they are still about to get a clear idea of the launch period but it should be just before the festive season. That could possibly suggest that the launch is scheduled for September or October. The amount of bookings is different, but some of them are asking Rs 21,000 and Rs 51,000 as token amounts.

The new generation Thar has been spied testing on the roads a lot of times. Once it was caught involved in an accident with Maruti Omni as well. Reports suggest that if the pandemic had not been there, the launch would have already taken place till now. The lifestyle SUV will undergo heavy changes to make it BS6 compliant as well as adhere to the safety norms.
It will get a new platform with a completely different shape altogether. The design language will also be different, probably a neo-retro approach. You will find all the old-school design cues but with LED headlamps, LED tail lights and other modern bits. New Thar will come with a soft-top as well as a hard-top as options.
Under the hood, it will get new 2.0 Litre petrol and a 2.2 Litre diesel engine. The latter is expected to produce more than 140 BHP and 300 Nm of peak torque. Both the petrol and diesel engines will be offered with a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT as options. Although, all the off-roading features are expected to come on the diesel variants.
