Facing stiff competition from BluSmart Mobility, Uber India will now soon enter the electric ride-sharing market with 25,000 Tata Tigor electric cars
Marking a significant milestone, India’s leading automaker Tata Motor recently announced a groundbreaking deal with Uber. Both the companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to bring 25,000 Tata Tigor EVs on the platform. This is the largest ever electric passenger vehicle fleet order in India. The company’s decision to enter the electric taxi space seems to be a result of the stiff competition from BluSmart mobility, a ride-sharing company that has an all-electric fleet.

BluSmart Mobility Offers Option of More Premium EVs
The deal is the largest ever EV commitment between India’s top carmaker and the ride-sharing app. The electric version of the Tigor sedan will be deployed in Uber’s services in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. Deliveries of these electric vehicles will begin this month in a phased manner and will be available for booking under Uber’s premium category ‘Uber Electric’ service. While the Tata Tigor EV taxis by Uber India could dent the popularity of BluSmart Mobility, the latter even offers more premium options such as the BYD e6, Hyundai Kona and MG ZS EV. As of now, none of these premium offerings are slated to be inducted into Uber India’s fleet.
However, the deal represents a significant milestone for both companies, as they work toward a common goal of reducing carbon emissions and making electric vehicles an accessible option for the masses. We are committed to lowering the barriers to the electric transition by working with industry partners who are leading the change,” said Prabhjit Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia.
