TVS motors, the country’s fourth largest two wheeler manufacturer, has been struggling a bit for a while for the simple reason that it does not launch a new product every now and then to keep the buzz going around the brand. But the company is looking to turn around a lot of things in future and has a product onslaught planned for the next 18 months. TVS will launch 5 new models by December 2014 which, it hopes, will bring back the spotlight on it and bring a lot of customers to its showrooms. Three out of the five planned launches will happen in the current fiscal year to help the company accelerate sales.
“Though the first quarter was not too bad, still we see the pressure continues during the current fiscal,” is what Venu Srinivasan, MD of TVS Motors, stated in the Business Standard. TVS has witnessed a decrease in the sales last year which is primarily because of the scarcity of launches in the TVS camp. “Its just 11 years since we broke our partnership with Suzuki. We are doing everything to improve our quality and technology. In the last three years the focus has been on improving the quality keeping BMW and Honda as benchmark. These improvements delayed some of our launches,” is what the top gun, Venu Srinivasan had to add.
The first of the three launches will be an all new scooter which will be based on the TVS Wego, an updated version of the scooty and the facelifted version of the Star City. Talking about the scooter based on the Wego, it will be the same one which has been caught testing quite a few times and we even brought you the spyshots of the same.
The other two bikes would include a larger capacity bike which will join the Apache family and another bike, details about the second one are scarce. The company has already partnered with BMW for production of sub 500cc motorcycles and the partnership’s first fruit might just reach the markets before 2014 ends. A bike which will slot between the Apace 160 and Phoenix 125 can also be expected seeing the fact that the company does not have a presence in that segment.
TVS has had a difficult run in the past few years but it hopes to change things drastically in future and it might just start competing with the likes of Bajaj and Honda in future. We can’t wait to see what exciting products TVS will be bringing to the market, we are escpecially curious about the bike it is developing with BMW, what about you?
