The automatic scooter segment is probably one of the most popular segments in the two wheeler market in India and every company out there wants to grab a share of the pie. The segment is dominated by the Honda Activa and the rest of the scooters battle it out against each other. Indian company TVS, which entered the automatic scooter segment with Wego, created a bit of a trouble for the Activa – but that was short lived. The company is now planning to broaden the portfolio by introducing a new scooter in the already crowded market. TVS has been testing a new Wego based scooter, which has just been caught on camera by the good folks at bikeadvice.in

Clearer photos of TVS’s Wego based scooter have surfaced online. These show a smart looking scooter, that borrows its looks from the Wego but has differentiating features at the same time as well, you can read about the design below. The news this time is that TVS might launch the scooter in the market on 16th September 2013. It is expected to be priced about the same as the Wego, which costs less than Rs. 50,000.

The front of the scooter gets a more masculine look as compared to the Wego. Right above the front mudguard is a triangular air-slit which sits flush in the front panel. The rear of the scooter looks like more like the Activa rather than the Wego.
The centre console of the scooter is pretty minimalistic and simple, which is a good thing. The tank filler is right above the tail lamps, which is new to the segment. The scooter would be powered by a 110cc engine, similar to the one that powers the Wego. We were hoping to see a new powerplant power this scooter, maybe some other time. . It will ride on 12 inch wheels, similar to the ones found on the Wego. The similarity of this new scooter to the Wego is a good thing as it is instantly recognisable as a TVS product.
The company had earlier launched a new automatic transmission, this could very well be the scooter that introduces the new transmission in the Indian market. The scooter is expected to go on sale in this calendar year after the company completes its thorough testing of the two wheeler. Price will be crucial – if TVS prices the scooter below the Activa, Honda might have a reason or two to worry about.
