The Toyota Yaris is yet to hit the market as of yet. We expect it to launch in India sometime during the month of May this year. The base variant of this sedan is going to retail at a price of INR 8.75 lakh. While the top of the line trim is going to cost INR 14.07 lakh.
Coming to the Maruti Ciaz, the base petrol variant of this sedan starts from INR 7.83 lakhs. While the top of the line version of this sedan starts from INR 11.62 Lakhs.

Yaris comes to India with only a petrol engine. This is not an oversight by the automaker but a rather well thought of the decision. 80 percent of the buyers in the executive sedan segment are opting for petrol derivatives. Hence, this sedan comes with a refined 1.5-litre VVt gasoline motor. This 4-cylinder engine can produce 108 BHP of power along with 137 Nm of peak torque. Interestingly, the car comes with a 7-step, CV T automatic transmission. While from the second to base variant onwards, one to also opt for a 6-speed manual gearbox.
In comparison, the Maruti Ciaz comes with both petrol and diesel derivatives. The petrol variants are powered by a 1.4-litre, K-Series engine. This engine produces 91 BHP of power along with 130 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes as standard with a 5-speed manual gearbox. While one can also opt for a 4-speed automatic which is available in all but the base variant. The diesel derivative comes with a 1.3-litre DDiS unit. This Fiat sourced oil-burner produces 88 BHP of power along with 200 Nm of peak torque. It comes as standard with a 5-speed manual gearbox. With the 2018 facelift, Maruti is likely to provide it with a new and more powerful 1.5-litre diesel engine.

Fuel efficiency is a very important parameter for buyers in the mid-size executive sedan segment. Though the exact figures are not out yet, though we believe that the Yaris is going offer decent mileage numbers. Expect the sedan to give a mileage of around 15 to 17 km/l.
The Maruti Ciaz’s petrol engine promises to offer a fuel efficiency figure of 20.73 km/l. While the diesel derivative, thanks to its mild-hybrid technology promises to offer 28.09 km/l of mileage.

The Japanese automaker is planning to pitch the Yaris against its rivals on the basis of certain segment first features. Apart from the standard feature list comes with energy and sound absorbing glass, roof-mounted rear air-vents, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a flat rear floor, tyre pressure monitoring system among the others.
The Maruti Ciaz’s feature list is also quite decent. It comes with projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control among the others.

The Yaris resembles quite a lot of its elder sibling, the Corolla when seen from the front fascia. It comes with elongated and sleek headlamps which wrap around the fenders neatly. Furthermore, the large grille and the simple yet elegant fog-lamp housing provide this sedan with a mature stance. The side profile of this sedan is quite simple. it comes with two creases which add a bit of a character to the otherwise clean features. it comes with 15-inch rims, even on the top spec versions. We believe, that 16-inch ones would have looked just a tad bit better. Furthermore, the rear end gets elongated headlamps which are slightly angular at the edges. Overall, we would say that the Yaris’s design is inclined towards a premium layout and will appeal to a more mature buyer.

In comparison, the Maruti Ciaz comes with a slightly sporty exterior profile. In typical Suzuki fashion, it bears angular headlamps and a large grille at the front. A similarly designed bumper further adds to the sporty design. Towards the sides, it comes with a bolder profile. It looks a bit stout in comparison to the otherwise relaxed aesthetics of the Yaris. At the back, this sedan comes with angular tail-lamps. The boot-lid bears a similar design scheme as well. Overall, the design of this sedan is slightly sportier in comparison to the Yaris. Just like the exteriors, the cabin of the Toyota Yaris is simple and neat. The design is not aggressive yet it still looks very modern and premium. The colour scheme in black and beige. it gives the sedan’s interiors an airy feel. The quality of the materials is very good. The top-end model comes with leather-wrapped steering wheel and seats. The seats are nicely contoured. Hence provide good support. Also, it comes with a segment first flat floor at the rear. Which provides a better experience for rear seat occupants.
