After the demise of Toyota Etios due to BS6 norms, Yaris is set to take place as the next Ola, Uber and Cab Fleet car from Toyota.
Toyota Etios, in its last few years, became a hit in the cab fleet market. If you booked Ola and Uber frequently, you would have seen a lot of Etios coming to pick you up. After all, it had a decent engine, was very spacious and also, easy to maintain.
Due to BS6 norms, Toyota has discontinued Etios and Etios Liva completely. Toyota used to get a lot of sales from the commercial vehicle market as Etios, Innova and to some extent, Innova and Camry all were popular as tourist cars. So, Toyota had to do something about it.
Reports suggest that Toyota is all set to replace Etios with the Yaris in the Ola, Uber and other cab fleet operators. Definitely, there will be an even cheaper version of Yaris which will be the base-spec variant. Possibly, it could also be offered to private car buyers.

Just like Etios, Yaris is also known for its relaxed nature, simple design and comfortable cabin. It comes with a 1.5 Litre petrol engine that is good for 107 BHP. The engine comes with the option of a 5-speed MT and a CVT gearbox. A downside to this is that it does not get a diesel engine.
Yaris may be outdated when it comes to design but gets many premium features. It is still the best sedan when it comes to safety features. 7 airbags, hill start assist control, vehicle stability control, ABS with EBD and BA, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and Front and Rear Parking Sensors are offered with it.
The current base-spec J trim of Yaris comes with projector headlamps, a cooled glove box, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, remote locking, all-round power windows, power adjustable wing mirrors, a rear armrest, split rear seats and three airbags. Most of these bits will be stripped down to bring the prices down.

As of now, the base trim of Yaris comes at a price of Rs 8.76 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The prices could go down to Rs 7 Lakhs which is very near to Etios. Plus, as far as we know, Toyota is said to be working on a CNG variant for Yaris too. So, both the merrier.
