The Toyota Vellfire is a luxury MPV that will come to India via the CBU route and it will be powered by a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain.
Toyota previewed the Vellfire MPV to select customers a few months ago and a handful of dealers have even been accepting bookings for the Vellfire recently. Toyota will be making deliveries of the Vellfire MPV to its customers in India sometime in March 2020 for the bookings that are being made. There has been several speculations about the India-spec Vellfire’s looks and features. Now, according to a report by Autocar India, we have a closer look at how the India-spec Vellfire in going to be.
The Vellfire is an executive luxury MPV that will come to our shores via the CBU route under the Indian government’s relaxed homologation rule. In India, the Vellfire will come with Toyota’s ‘Executive Lounge’ package as standard. That includes two captain chairs for the middle row passengers. The seats themselves are ventilated and can be electrically reclined too. This package also includes powered tailgate and sliding doors, two sunroofs, three-zone automatic climate control, mood lighting and individual tray tables for the India-spec Vellfire.
The model seen in these images get an aftermarket 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. There are also two 10.2 inch screen for the rear passengers as part of the entertainment package and it also gets a 360 degree camera. A few Vellfires have already been imported to India and according to the report by Autocar India, all the MPVs are identical on the inside and the outside. The cabin comes draped in dual-tone beige and black finish while the exterior has been painted in Pearl White.
Just for you knowledge, the Vellfire is based on the Alphard MPV which is on sale in some select markets. The Vellfire is essentially a more premium version of the same and it gets unique front and rear design and more features on the inside, along with added creature comforts. The Vellfire will be available in India in a single fully-loaded trim and is expected to have an ex-showroom price of about Rs. 80 lakhs.

The Toyota Vellfire will be powered by a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain which couples a 150hp, 2.5-litre petrol engine with a 143hp electric motor. The combined output however stands at 197hp. This is the same powertrain that does duty on the Lexus NX 300h SUV already on sale in India. The engine will come mated to a CVT gearbox and that’s the only transmission option.

The Toyota Vellfire will rival the likes of the Mercedes V-Class which was launched in India earlier this year for an ex-showroom price ranging between Rs 68.40-81.90 lakh. Both the Toyota Vellfire and the Mercedes V-Class will also see competition from the upcoming Kia Carnival MPV that will launch in India in 2020.
