Toyota has finally put out the teaser of its upcoming Urban Cruiser compact SUV, which is scheduled to be launched next month.
The second product from the Toyota Suzuki Partnership has been teased in India. Toyota Urban Cruiser has been revealed under a silhouette on the social media channels of the manufacturer. It is based on the Maruti Vitara Brezza, borrowing the same engine, gearbox options and features list.
While it may be a rebadged version, but the Urban Cruiser will get some of its own unique highlights. For starters, the front grille will be tweaked and so will be the rear badging portion. The headlamp, tail lamp and alloy wheels might be the same, but the SUV might just use completely new front and rear bumpers.
The engine specifications will also remain the same, with the 1.5 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine. The engine, on Brezza, produces 104 BHP and 138 Nm of peak torque, while mated to a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed AT. Even the gearbox options will be same. Sharing of components, engines and platforms reduces the costs of both the companies.
Just like Glanza is better than the Baleno in certain areas, there are four highlights that Toyota’s SUV has better than the segment leader.
Toyota Urban Cruiser 4 Higlights Better Than Maruti Vitara Brezza
1. Manual-Hybrid Technology
Toyota Urban Cruiser will get Suzuki’s SHVS mild-hybrid technology as standard. Unlike Vitara Brezza, Toyota will offer the technology even on manual variants. This will also increase the mileage of Urban Cruiser manual and will be more than the Vitara Brezza Manual. The latter currently offers 17.03 kmpl.
2. More Warranty Period
Toyota will offer the SUV with a 3-year standard warranty, which will be a lot more than that of Vitara Brezza. Also, there might be optional packages which will increase your warranty after paying a certain amount. As for the Glanza, even it gets a 3-year/1 Lakh kms warranty.
3. More Vibrant And Upmarket Interior Quality
Reports suggest that Urban Cruiser will get a revised cabin with different material quality. While the Brezza goes with Grey/Black plastic, the Urban cruiser could offer a dual-tone black and beige option. The quality of materials might be improved as well.
4. Cheaper Than Vitara Brezza
Instead of offering its compact SUV in a lot of variants, Toyota might just offer 2-3 variants. Similar to Glanza, the SUV might just get the middle-spec and top-end variants and no base variant. By lowering the prices of its variants, technically, the starting price will be more than Brezza but variant-wise, it will be cheaper.
