Fresh media reports confirm that Toyota is going to launch the Urban Cruiser subcompact SUV in September and its booking will commence next month.
The second product from the partnership of Toyota and Suzuki is soon coming up in India. Toyota is making a rebadged version of Maruti Vitara Brezza, under the name of Urban Cruiser. A couple of months ago, MSIL started supplying the units of their SUV to Toyota’s Bidadi plant. Now, reports suggest that the launch is nearing and the bookings will commence next month itself.
Toyota is going to release the teasers of new Urban Cruiser by the third week of August, following which, the bookings will commence at that time itself. The launch is scheduled to happen sometime in September, right in time for the festive season. Lastly, the deliveries will commence by the end of September. So, anytime soon, we can start seeing the spy shots of the upcoming new sub compact SUV.

Urban Cruiser will get minor cosmetic differences like different colours, slightly different front and rear bumpers along with newly designed headlamp and tail lamp. Unlike the Baleno-Glanza affair, this time, there will be some bits that will differentiate both the SUVs. However, the alloys and equipment will remain the same. The features will also be the same, without any single change.
Under the hood, it will continue with a 1.5 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 104 PS and 138 Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options will include the same 5-speed MT and 4-speed AT. Mostly, Toyota Urban Cruiser will offer the mild-hybrid system with both the transmission options. In case of Brezza, only the AT variants get the SHVS technology, therefore, resulting in a higher fuel efficiency.
Features onboard will include cruise control, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic headlamps, automatic rain-sensing wipers and LED headlamps. Prices are expected to undercut that of Maruti Vitara Brezza by a small margin of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000. However, there are possibilities that Toyota will not bring any base variant and directly, we will have the mid-spec trim. So, the prices can start off at around Rs 7-7.5 Lakhs itself.
