The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder mid-size SUV has been launched in India. The online bookings commenced on August 1 for a token amount of Rs 25,000. With the Hyryder, Toyota and Maruti (with Grand Vitara) aim to challenge the leadership position acquired by the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos for a long time. Toyota Hyryder SUV Price
Currently, the price of the top trim of the mild-hybrid version is Rs 17.09 lakh which undercuts the Creta by over Rs 1 lakh. On the other hand, the prices of the strong hybrid variants range from Rs 15.11 lakh to Rs 18.99 lakh, ex-showroom. This is a great asking price considering the amount of money that one would save in the long term as the strong hybrid versions promise a mileage of 27.97 km/l. The premium on the initial price would be well compensated in running costs.

At 4,365 mm long, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder might be the longest car in its segment. It has a width of 1,795 mm and a height of 1,635 mm. The mid-size SUV has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm only and 205 mm of ground clearance. Apart from that, the front fascia features the split-LED DRLs setup on the bonnet, while the main headlight is positioned on the bumper, the grille has a chrome belt. The side profile bears stylish alloy wheels and blacked-out side pillars. At the rear, the LED taillamps are connected with a chrome strip and there is a sturdy skid plate highlighting its SUV-ish character.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara will have identical powertrain options. This means that there will be 2 hybrid petrol engines. The mild-hybrid will be a Maruti-sourced 4-cylinder 1.5-litre K-Series engine that will output 102 hp and 137 Nm of peak torque and come with an AWD drivetrain, while the strong hybrid will have a 3-cylinder 1.5-litre engine from Toyota with an electric motor and a Li-Ion battery pack that will develop a combined power of 116 hp and torque of 141 Nm. The former will come with manual and automatic transmissions, while the latter will feature a sole e-CVT automatic gearbox.
