Toyota showcases a Fortuner which runs on 100% flex fuel, bioethanol. The Japanese auto giant is quite active in developing vehicles which can run on alternative fuel sources. Everyone understands the need to discard the pollution-emitting petrol and diesel cars. With the ever-stringent emission norms, it will anyway be too expensive to keep updating these mills to comply with them. Hence, the need to switch to cleaner sources of energy is a necessity. Since there are a lot of hurdles with EVs (even though they seem like the most feasible choice at the moment), Toyota is working on technology like biofuels and hydrogen. Here is another example of it.

Toyota Unveils Flex Fuel Fortuner
At the ongoing Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2023, Toyota displays this unique Fortuner. From the outside, there are not many changes. The overall design and appearance remain identical to the ICE model. However, there are green body graphics which set it apart from the pollution-emitting models. In addition, there is a sticker on the door which reads Flexy Fuel Bioethanol E-100. This clarifies that the SUV is capable of running on 100% biofuel. This is quite impressive. In addition, Toyota also unveiled Corolla Cross E-100 and Corolla Cross H2 concept (hydrogen).

Specs
Needless to say, there are a few modifications to the fuel system and ECU programming in order to make it compatible with 100% bioethanol. It comes with a 2.7-litre DOHC Dual VVT-i petrol engine which generates a healthy 163 hp and 243 Nm of peak power and torque compared to 166 hp and 245 Nm in the pure petrol version. There is an automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels. It will be interesting to experience what Toyota plans for the future with powertrains like these.
