Toyota has launched the Urban Cruiser Taisor which is based on the existing Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Note that this is yet another badge-engineered product under the Toyota-Suzuki alliance. This joint venture has already spawned numerous cars in our market including Baleno-Glanza, Brezza-Urban Cruiser, Grand Vitara-Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Invicto-Innova Hycross, etc. In essence, the two counterparts are similar in terms of design, features, powertrains and transmissions. Still, there are minor changes to set the two apart. For now, let us take a look at the details of these two vehicles here.
Toyota Taisor vs Maruti Fronx Comparison – Specs
Both these vehicles come with the option of either a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine or a 1.0-litre turbo petrol mill which churns out 90 PS / 113 Nm and 100 PS / 147.6 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. The transmission duties are carried out by a 5-speed manual, an AMT or an automatic gearbox. There is also a CNG variant with the 1.2-litre version which generates a decent 78 PS and 99 Nm of peak power and torque. It comes with a sole 5-speed manual transmission option. It is great for those who are looking for a vehicle with low running costs. Hence, there is nothing to choose from here.

Toyota Taisor vs Maruti Fronx Comparison – Price
There is a noticeable difference in the prices of the two. Toyota announced that the prices of the Urban Cruiser Taisor will range between Rs 7.74 lakh and Rs 13.04 lakh, ex-showroom. On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx ranges from Rs 7.51 lakh to Rs 13.04 lakh, ex-showroom. Hence, the starting price of the Taisor is a full Rs 23,000 higher than the Fronx. However, the top variant costs almost the same.

Top Model | Rs 13.04 lakh | Rs 13.04 lakh |
Interior and Features
On the inside, both these vehicles come with a similar feature list. However, there is a minor difference in the overall theme with the new upholstery for the Toyota Taisor. The common amenities include a head-up display, steering-mounted controls, cruise control, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless smartphone connectivity, OTA, 6-speaker audio system, a 360-degree camera, keyless entry, height adjustable driver’s seat, 6 airbags, textured dashboard layout, automatic climate control, generous cabin and boot compartment, part-digital driver’s instrument cluster, wireless charging, ambient lighting, connected car tech and more. Hence, there won’t be any changes to the actual equipment list.
Exterior
Again, the overall design and silhouette of the two vehicles hardly bear any distinctions. There are LED DRLs at the front along with LED headlamps, a sporty bumper with a rugged skid plate, a prominent grille with a Toyota logo, roof rails, stylish alloy wheels, black side pillars, evident side body cladding, flaring wheel arches with a squared-off appearance, notable skid plate at the rear, connected LED taillamps, a roof-mounted spoiler, contoured rear bumper and a shark fin antenna. All in all, the difference lies in the alloy wheel and bumper designs.

Author’s Note
In all honesty, there’s barely any difference between these two vehicles, much like other Toyota-Suzuki badge-engineered cars. Still, to have a relatively high entry-level price of the Taisor could mean that the buyers opting for the budget end of the lineup would lean towards Maruti Suzuki. On the top trims, the gap is almost negligible. Hence, you should ideally opt for the carmaker you have a great relationship with. Also, your location plays a key role in deciding which model makes more sense to you. But as far as the styling, features and powertrains go, you are essentially getting the same thing.
