Just yesterday we reported to you that Toyota has hiked the price of the Fortuner SUV by Rs 48,000. Now we have come to know that the price hike was not just for the Fortuner but most cars and SUV’s in the manufacturer’s lineup has been effected. These models include the Glanza, Yaris, Innova Crysta, Innova Touring Sport and the Fortuner and the hike has been effective from June 1, 2020. However, models like the Camry hybrid and the Vellfire remain unaffected from the hike in price.
In an official statement, Toyota said, “Toyota Kirloskar Motors announces the realignment of prices across our models with a hike between 1 to 2 percent. This increase is necessitated to partially recover the substantial increase in cost of BS6 and the higher input costs on the back of weak exchange rate. During such testing times, it has been our endeavour to absorb cost increases through our internal efforts and only a minimal portion has been reflected onto the prices. The increase in price is effective from June 1st, 2020.”
These hikes are not just a minimal increase of a couple of thousands but extend up to over half a lakh. For example, diesel variants of the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Innova Touring Sport see a hike ranging from Rs 30,000 to as much as Rs 61,000. Meanwhile, the price of the petrol versions of both these models have been hiked in the range of Rs 30,000 to Rs 44,000 depending on the variant.
