In a shocking incident, a Toyota Land Cruiser owner purchased a registration number worth a jaw-dropping Rs 25.50 lakh. I have seen many cases of wealthy personalities pushing the envelope to get VIP number plates. That sets their cars apart from the others. However, they often have to pay incredible amounts to get these special registration plates. What fascinates me beyond measure is that the prices of some of these VIP number plates can be as expensive as the prices of some large SUVs! This is one such case.

The Central Government recently approved the ‘TG’ prefix for vehicle registration plates in Telangana. This replaces the existing ‘TS’ prefix. As a result, exciting options have surfaced for Telangana residents to get VIP number plates for their vehicles. The second series of registration numbers with ‘TG’ credentials has been underway at the Khairtabad Regional Transport Office since May 20. Note that the first series from 0001 to 9999 was sold out in around two months.
A total of Rs 2.70 Crore revenue was generated from the first series. Within the first 6 days of opening the second series, Rs 34.41 lakh was already collected. The most expensive number plate of this series is ‘TG-09-9999’ with a price tag of a whopping Rs 25.50 lakh. It was taken by Sony Transport Solutions for a Toyota Land Cruiser. There were 11 people who participated in the auction for this fancy number. The other prominent number in this series is ‘TG-09-0001’. It sold for Rs 9.61 lakh. Thereafter, the 0099 and 0999 number plates were also purchased for Rs 50,000 each.
Our View
Opting for VIP number plates is a great way to make your vehicle stand out in the crowd. However, it is a mighty expensive affair. That is why it is limited to the absolute top celebrities or eminent personalities in India. Regular humans can’t even think of spending such an exorbitant amount of money on just the number plates. Still, it gives us an idea of just how the affluent section of our society lives.
