Reports have surfaced that the new Toyota Innova diesel automatic variant is planned for India launch by 2016. Toyota recently gave a facelift to their most successful vehicle, back in October 2013. We reported few days back that the brand is also working on replacements for its popular SUV Toyota Fortuner. So the new MPV and SUV i.e. Innova and Fortuner respectively might be released around same time. At the same time, Toyota will be ready with new diesel engines which will be seen powering these cars.
The next generation models of the Toyota Innova and Fotuner will be based on a new platform called Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). This was confirmed by Naomi Ishii, Toyota India’s new boss. The Toyota New Global Architecture will be on similar lines as that of the MQB platform from Volkswagen and will spawn a range of cars based on common plaform. Rumours are that its unlikely for the new Innova to use a monocoque chassis, and that a ladder-frame setup will be used. The new model will build on the strengths of the current Innova by offering a roomier cabin and more features. On the outside, the new Innova is described as having ‘striking’ styling cues.
The last years facelifted models saw minimal updates, but the prices were increased. The Innova’s price now extends up to INR 14.77 lakhs, ex-Showroom, Mumbai and the incoming model is not expected to cost you any lesser
We will keep you posted on further developments, until then do let us know what you think of the new MPV in the pipeline!
