The Toyota Innova Crysta contributes to over 40% of total sales in its segment while the Fortuner constitutes a record 63.9% of total sales in its segment for February 2020.
Toyota recently announced their sales for February 2020 and their bread and butter models, which are the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner, have come out at the top of their respective segments. Both the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner have recorded an increase in their market share.
Toyota claims that over 9 lakh units of the Innova have been retailed since the first-gen model launched back in 2005 – with its sales regularly contributing over 40% of the segment’s total sales. In February 2020, Toyota recorded one of the highest ever segment shares for the second-gen Innova ever since it was introduced in 2016. The Innova Crysta accounts for 52.91% of the total segment sales.
As for the Fortuner, it held a 54% market share in the full-size seven-seater SUV category in 2019. It recorded its highest ever increase in market share last month with its sales accounting for 63.9% of total sales in the segment.

Toyota introduced the BS6 compliant version of the Innova Crysta at the beginning of this year. The car maker updated the 2.7-litre petrol engine and 2.4-litre diesel engine to comply with the stricter emission norms but the 2.8L diesel engine was discontinued from the MPV’s lineup. With the BS6 upgrade, the Innova Crysta also saw a bump in price by about Rs 11,000, depending on the variant.

The BS6 Toyota Fortuner was launched some time at an introductory price of Rs 28.18 lakhs which is the same as the BS4 model. However, the prices will surely increase in the coming weeks. With the BS6 update, the Fortuner retains both its powertrain options – the 166hp, 2.7-litre petrol and 177hp, 2.8-litre diesel engine. The features and tech on-board also remain unchanged. Toyota also launched the Vellfire in the luxury MPV class in India and is looking to boost sales of the Yaris as well. On another new, the legendary Toyota Supra is also in consideration for India.
