The rumour mill is indicating a rather surprising development at Toyota whereby the Innova Crysta diesel might cease to exist for private buyers.
Our beloved Toyota Innova Crysta diesel might be available solely to the fleet operators henceforth. According to the discussion on a Team BHP forum, Toyota has stopped taking new bookings for the Innova in the diesel variants. Now, the MPV is unarguably the most successful product in the segment in our country. In fact, it has been growing stronger in terms of traction despite the prices now aligned with the premium end of the segment. People are buying it regardless.

Toyota Innova Crysta Diesel Discontinued?
A couple of members of the forum reported that their local Toyota dealers are no longer taking the bookings of the Innova Crysta diesel. However, people who have already booked the MPV will get the deliveries. Going forward, only the petrol variants will be available for booking. This begs the question if Toyota is limiting its diesel variants only to the fleet operators. The Japanese auto giant has not made any formal announcement regarding this. But it might be safe to assume that it has something to do with the upcoming Innova Crysta facelift.

In fact, it will be more than just a facelift. Toyota is planning to bring the updated MPV with a new powertrain which might be hybrid, it will be based on a new platform with monocoque chassis as opposed to the current-gen model which is underpinned by a Rear-Wheel-Drive ladder-on-frame chassis also available with the Fortuner. Also, the new Innova will be Front-Wheel-Drive. The upcoming Innova facelift might be called Toyota HyCross.

Some reports suggest that Toyota might sell both these models (the current gen and the new gen) simultaneously. This could result in the existing model being exclusively available for fleet operators with slightly tweaked features to make it more attractive in terms of affordability. In this way, the upcoming model will be priced in such a way that it differentiates itself significantly from the commercial model. For exact details and announcements, we will have to wait a little longer. We might see the updated Innova Crysta by the end of this year (2022).
